edit - I know this seems like a knee jerk, flat out denial, don't even care what they implement and how they implement it reaction, but I really feel this will be the step that takes the well balanced game of skill and teamwork and turn it into a item fueled fuckfest where whoever spends the most money/time grinding for new items will be able to totally fuck with people that play with vanilla items.
Don't get me wrong, questing for items is cool, BUT NOT IN A TEAM BASED FPS SHOOTER!

I thought that random drop weapons was an idea considered that was dropped in favour of the class update/achievement system? And surely they need to finish all of the basic class updates before making changes which give the updated classes a greater advantage.

If they're giving people advantages I'll be looking for a new game to play, sadly there aren't any other teamplay based FPS games out there.

A little more balanced perspective from First Person Shouter.

Interesting, I'm not sure they should change things constantly without finishing all the classes - but maybe the Sniper update will have new headgear?

I can see myself deleting some of the current stuff to make room for other items, but it seems utterly pointless. It's not an RPG, and if there are going to be over 50 items, it's strangely complex (why couldn't you delete default weapons for instance? at least, they're not on the interface).

The metagame of item collection is one I don't want to play, never have done, if I did I'd go play Some Other Shooter.

The article Final linked to says that we could once reset our stats, I've had this prettymuch since release, I don't remember being able to use the button only that it was there.

I really don't want this game to change more than it already is, the backpack thing is already a little much, why would I ever want to remove a weapon and have no available option to get it back, seriously, I might not like the sandvich now but maybe in near future they nerf it to the better or I find some obscure purpose for it...

I imagine we'll see some servers enforcing Vanilla items, those might be an option should this business get out of hand. Teatime's right of course, we don't know anything for sure yet, just got to see how it pans out. (I demand an update on "The Fort" offering opinions! )

But a question: The backback tab shown in the screenshots - is that present already? Because it doesn't show in my loadout screen.

I'll admit that my edit of the first post may have been a wee bit OTT, but being stuck at work and having your only source of information be the Steam forums, this kind of shit is to be expected! So for a more calm, rational view, I'd say that, like Final, I don't want to be involved in the "Item hunt" metagame in TF2; I play Oblivion/Diablo/RPG's in general for item/clothing hunts thanks very much! As for the delete thing, depends on how the item thing works out, but I don't see why I'd want to delete items that I spent time and effort getting without having the option of getting them back!  I guess we're back to "wait and see how they do it" mode again!

@Tea - yeah, guesswork and jumping to conclusions, but I think its based on a bit more then "thin air", source code apearing since the last patch is kind of a big indication as to where they are going with this!

First paragraph. Plus, I'm guessing these screenshots of the backpack have to come from somewhere, though I haven't quite figured that out yet.......

Also - It's kind of like the way the changed it so that Heavy drops sandvich and you can pick it up and heal from it after you kill him. I imagine that's what they're aiming towards.

I don't really understand what they're planning, but I might be alone in kinda liking the idea of RPG elements.
