Does anyone else think there is more soldiers playing on WDG (And TF2 in general) than there was a while ago? I recall a time when there was stacks of brutally good spies on WDG, but these days, often no one wants to play spy, and instead there's a lot of very good soldiers. (I'm honestly not complaining at all here, it's just something I think I've noticed) I haven't played TF for that long, so maybe there have been other trends like this, I don't know.

I'd be interested in what others have to say about this, I have a couple theories. One is just that since i stopped playing spy and started playing soldier, I've become much more aware of good soldiers. Another is that perhaps the extra soldiers have come about due to people trying to counter the scout rushes of the scout update. I don't know. Frankly I'm not even sure if the effect has not been simply imagined by me. Don't suppose there are any statistics out there that could support/refute?

I don't think its something that's cropped up recently, I've always felt there's been lots of soldiers in games. Maybe they've been in "hiatus" during the Scout update! *shrugs*

Now you mention it, i have noticed more soldiers playing recently. It might just be more good soldiers, rather than just more, but i don't know.

There seems to have been more soldiers, was thinking the same myself. That's probably just because one or two regulars have started playing it, and you/me tend to play it a lot too. I haven't played that much recently, but it feels like there's less scouts after the nerf, and so the class balance has changed a bit, which helps.

I've been playing nothing but solider recently, but that's only because it's too hard to play anything else with such a low frame rate. As soon as I get my comp fixed I'll be playing other classes again.

I've been playing Soldier a bit recently, but that's more as part of an effort to try and sample a bit of everything. Demoman's still fun (such as on Badwater earlier ), but variety is good too.

Aye, alot of times I go to play soldier, and we already have about 3 on the team.

I'm one of the recently converted soldiers. I go through phases of loving different classes and have just changed from scout to soldier

I only usually go solly when I get pissed off with scout or on spammy areas of maps (the whole of dustbowl being for example!)

I think it's for 2 reasons;

1. You mentioned a lack of spies, Rob hasn't played much since he left the clan (and probably won't after getting b&) and Snowman is in Slovakia for a week or so. I also used to play spy a lot, but it got boring so I play random classes now.

2. Scout has been nerf'd so it's easier as soldier to kill the bastards.


I also feel that soldiers should be the majority of the team, they're good at both dealing and soaking up damage, they're a good all round class that can do well in almost any situation.

You are right there Terror, I was trying to think of a good counter to soldiers, but there isn't one that is cut and dried. Spies and Snipers can (theoretically) work pretty well or....

Heavy medic teams, (JUNTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA)

I think with every new update of a class, the dynamic of the game changes. The increased ability in 1 class results in the change of play styles and class choices to counter it.

I found the Heavy update pushed me away from the Pyro and into the Soldier. I was gettin gunned down before I was in range and the soldier allowed me to take on heavies at range.

With the influx of scouts, the heavy has been given extra targets again, especially as his loadout now has some tricks that give him the ability to be a serious threat. So the Pyro has become more of a favourite again.

Thats true, more medics with Kritzkrieg. (which has advantages/disadvantages)

I always play Soldier/Demo.
It's much more satisfying to see enemies explode.

Yeah don't buy games in Germany.

I only buy UK/US-versions, because of the German censorship.
