Just accepted an invite from a user called Recovery System and instantly received the following chat message:

Recovery System Hello, we have identified two or more IPs logging on to this account. This may be due to a hacker. In order to verify your account information, we will need your Steam login and password in the following format: Username/Password. If you do not verify your accout in 24hours, it will be permanently banned

I'm assuming this is a bogus attempt to spoof my Steam a/c. Anyone know any different?

Needless to say I haven't responded

Spot on Phil - bin it.

Steam will never ask for your user name or password (Like all legitimate agents, banks etc)

Remove them from your friends list too - its how you get contacted anyway.

If they are logging your IP in two locations I know for a fact that they log the one that was active last off.

They would never need your password to access your account because they have access to the main server.

Well you'd be surpriced at the number of people that don't think before doing this kind of stuff [giving away their PW] even when it says "NEVER GIVE AWAY YOUR PW TO ANYONE" right at the top of the messages.

If misses turns my laptop on and logs on as me it auto logs me into steam, and boots me out of game on my PC with a nice pop up message saying you have logged in at another location....

Nope, it's just the steam username. (Rule of thumb: MAC Adress knowledge ends on the next router.)
You can login with several steam accounts on a LAN which is only connected to the internet via one router (disallowing that would be stupid).
