My pet hate is sites where you just want a quick account and they go NO YOU MUST HAVE A 10 CHARACTER PASSWORD WITH 6 NUMBERS AND 4 SPECIAL CHARACTERS. Stupid.

I've got a decent sized salt (which I should improve) that I mix up for most of my passwords. For crappy ones I use crappy passwords though that follow a theme. All pretty normal for most people, although some just use the same strong password everywhere, or lots of easily guessed ones.

Ironically some of the worst are from the 'The Official CAPTCHA Site'
Some of the most unreadable I've ever seen!

Generally forums have the worst when they aren't using captcha.net, ones that you can read, you know you're right, computer says no. Good idea awful execution.

I have 5 or so, which is added to every time my uni account makes me change my password. I've got one main one, but I'm trying to spread them out a bit more now (which does lead to me forgetting which one I've used and locking myself out after 3 attempts).

WDG and BFM both use reCaptcha..
its pretty readable although sometimes comes up with a bad image.
I like it cuz its free and easy to install

The one that annoys me is NatWest's online banking...

Please Insert the:
1st
3rd
4th
Number from your PIN.
AND then...

Please insert characters:
3rd:
9th:
12th:
Characters from your password.

EVERY BLOODY TIME I LOG ONTO MY ONLINE BANKING I END UP SAYING ALL THE CHARACTERS OUT LOUD AND COUNTING THEM ON MY FINGERS.

(even after having the same password/pin for over 3 years)

the reason for it is for things like keyloggers - makes it hard to determine a 12 letter password from a random cominbation of 3 letters.

And the KeePass thing - there are a few advantages:
1. if someone finds out your password - they still need access to your local machine somehow to get the passwords
2. you can copy + paste the passwords instead of typing them - protecting you from keyloggers.

Also...with regards to captcha images...hate it when you type in the wrong thing, and then sometimes makes you fill out the ENTIRE form again Sad sad times.

What annoys me about Lloyds' is that the password is of limited length and restricted to numbers and letters (there is a logon password and the extra password). I've made both the maximum but 16 characters...wow, limited much? Sad

Same with other banks I've been told - even so far as it is PIN numbers instead of passwords as you said (ouch! easy to break much?), I don't know, sometimes it is rather the illusion of security - for good reason, since the banks like to burden the customer on being in the wrong so as to not do anything about things that do go wrong (this is the case with these chip and PIN cards, sigh - someone gets your pin, you're buggered). Cest la vie!

I use 3 different passwords, one that I don't really care if people get which I use for pointless stuff, a more secure one for stuff that might let people access my details and one very strong one (which I change) for very important stuff.

I don't mind captchas when the sound thing that comes with them works, but on things like the Google one, it sounds like a raging sex criminal cold calling you. The worst part is you can't tell what he's saying!
