Actually the aspect I like most about the Sandman is that it will affect übers.
While a über is never a sure thing it established a certain common approach to a lot of situations.
Sandman might be able to shake up those tried-and-true tactics.
Like the updates or not, but at least Valve manages to keep the game changing.

Yeah, sandman sounds like a lot of fun, and lends more purpose to using the scout on defence when the spam is flying.
Still doesn't give them the edge over the engie though, I'm expecting one of the other upgrades to be some kind of speed boost or similar, to help a skillful scout make it past (without destroying) a sentry nest.

Also no-one has mentioned yet, but the sandman makes scouts lose their double jump. Is it just me, or will that take away one of the best things about scouts when you get up close and personal with the enemy team? The decision to use sandman might not be such a no-brainer after all for the scout who enjoys a good mid-air direction change.

Shame Valve always drip-feed us the info like this.

Yeah, it looks like it could be a good balance - between a playstyle of getting close and jumping around your enemy keeping out of their view, or stunning them from range then running in blasting with pistol, shotty, and then battering them.

Theres also a nice trade between the solo style offensive alternate route taking and ambushing, and the more team based defensive stunning.

Back on topic: I agree the effect on ubered people is most peculiar. I think the scout update fits well with the recent changes of reinforced Sentry posts and ramped-up Natasha. Positively excited about the rest of the update.

@Gasman: I'll be with you on L4D should I get annoyed by all the bonks on the server.

Todays release was maps - one "sniper friendly" alpine arena map and one "gravelpit style" cp with "lots of tight spaces".


Personally, I was hoping for another CTF map, and maybe a map based on one of the "arena" styles that wasn't arena (if that makes sense)!
Thoughts?

There were two or three server doing arena last time I checked...new map is not going to change that [/my thoughts]

I've played the "gravlepit style map" it's all about the various pigs meats (read: spam)

And I would much rather see Hoodoo up there than any of those.
