Star Wars = Total Win. Close second was Indy, but alas he got raped by lucas and spielberg so he feels like sloppy seconds now.

Fortunately I haven't seen the 4th Indy film, and for as long as I can, I hope to keep it that way.

Star Wars!

To be fair, I haven't actually got around to watching the godfather trilogy yet despite having it on DVD for years.
Somehow managed to find time to watch Battle Royale 2 however, which is almost certainly one of the worst films ever made.

Die Hard is one of the best christmas-movies ever made.
In my family its traditional to watch Die Hard on Christmas Eve...

Die Hard would have been in my list if it would have been still a trilogy (though the third doesn't have that much of the spirit of its predecessors and the forth has even less). Of course Indiana Jones isn't a trilogy anymore, either (hence my remark).
But IMHO the 4th Indy is much more in tune with the series than, for example, Die Hard. It has some over-the-top action, but that was always part of the movies. And the ending, while not great, was okay (Or was the ending of Indy 3 with a centuries-old knight more credible ?)

Godfather, LotR, Star Wars in that order. They're the only consistently good ones, with the only low points being the sadly rather poor parts of the third Godfather (after the excellent second film which combines two unravelling stories in one!), the somewhat rambling nature of the LotR films (the second film more then the first and third) and the more boring bits of The Empire Strikes Back in Star Wars, and Ewoks, who are shit.

I still need to watch the full length versions of LotR, maybe do it back to back at some point.

Can't vote for 3, so there we go, oh well.

The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Naked Gun had a good first film, Spider-Man, Back to the Future and Indiana Jones had 2 good ones (else Indiana Jones would be higher, I just...the middle one...screaming, screaming!!!). Back to the Future sadly had a rather poor middle one, the first and third are excellent.

Bourne, while I've watched all 3, seem more consistently one long film (try watching number 3 after missing the end of 2, man it's confusing!) and overall are good, but 50% of each film is a bit on the silly or pointless side and definately strays more then once into the "what's the point" territory.

Bourne Ultimatum is my 4th favourite film (the top 3 all being one-offs), and it wouldn't work without the first two, so I'll take that.

Strange how the bourne films have ZERO resemblence to the books? For example, the books having the ultimate contract killer "The Jackal".  I'd have enjoyed the films more if I hadnt have read the books

I read the books before but enjoyed the films anyway (the first has a sort of resemblance...). It helps to know that Robert Ludlum helped write the scripts for the films, and that the whole Jackal storyline wouldn't really work in a post Cold War world, too. They could have done more, but as long as you don't expect a film version of the books you're fine.

I approached it from the other direction. I saw the first film, then read the trilogy of books. I found it a little odd at first when the stories started to deviate away from one another. But the end result was that there was two very compelling stories spawning from the same jaunera. But Hollywood has always enjoyed the "loosely based on the book" kind of film making. Planet of the Apes springs to mind.
