Ok, this is a question with a twist of a rant attached to it.


Manny months ago I brought some bits off Fade. A spanky mother board and some RAM. So I need a graphics card, a processor and a PSU.

Now Fade helped me out with bits and recomendations. Now back in October the total came to £273.64. Today it's now £287.39!

Why on God's green earth has the price gone up for smeg's sake?

Well the grapghics card has gone down £1.99 (Horray!)

The PSU has gone up £4.16

The processor has gone up £15.46


I've told Santa I've been a good boy, but some how I don't think he belives me. On the bright side, work curently owes me over £200 in overtime. Fingers crossed that by the time I get the money together I can afford the upgread.

I'm off to listen to Billy Connolly to chear my self up.

You can blame price rises on the falling rate of the Pound against the US Dollar. Computer components, certainly CPUs, are usually priced in $ to the retailers (CPUs are priced in $ per thousand). At least you should see a slight fall (maybe) with the reduction in VAT next week.

I had a similar problem when I bought a new set of front tyres for my car .
I asked why they were 4 quid dearer than the rear ones I bought last week and he said "Inflation has gone up"

In my imagination yeah - I made it up because I didn't have anything meaningful to say as usual

After I chinned the guy, the whole of the workshop crew ran out carrying assorted weapons like tyre levers, wheel braces, chain saws etc and attacked me but I managed to melee my way out of trouble. Then I strode off towards the supermarket car park carrying my tyres like the geezer in the tyre geezer poster waiting for reality to kick back in

Aye, it's all down to the exchange rate, the pound has taken a real kicking recently, specially vs the dollar. It probably would have only been about £250 if you'd got a quote back in summertime.

Oh the spec is still awsome. it's just a case of me saving up. Aledgedly that is a £400 bonus coming in December (provided i don't do anythign stupid), so in theory I should be able to order the bits and be up and running by the new year. Gonn have to order some hard drives as well. The ones I've got have a habbit of causing the PC to emit a high "C" from the speakers while freezing the system. The SMART data is showing spin up erros and read / write erros. Aledgedly good till 2054, but some how I think they'll fail befor hand
