So for the people that don't know, I am now playing pocket soldier in a div 6/iron 6s team. I have no 6s experience, no soldier experience and in fact I just suck. So does anyone have some tips/tricks or know how I can get some practice in before the league starts in the winter? Clanners/regs/neutral parties can respond ^^

Stay with your medic, dont do lonewolf shit. Get gut at killing scouts. Dont think twice. Thats all.

Go onto ETF2L and grab some demos of the prem teams for last season and watch how they play. Best bet is prob epsilon or Awsomniac: http://etf2l.org/teams/76/

Prem teams have to upload demos for every game so you can see how they play all the maps - how to rollout - positioning - main places combo push/hold etc etc.

Also jump on http://rc.tf2center.com/ to get some games in. Is not great as everyone kinda does their own thing but will give you a feel of the pace of the games and some comms as you are expected to use mumble.

That's a very kind offer Lefty, but I have realised that my main problem is positioning so I will watch some VTV insights and get demos off ETF2L. In that respect I am fine at finding out about things!
Would div6 mixes be good for getting experience for the team/me in a quick and cheap way? Also, why do no teams use www.scrim.tf ?

you are a protector or medic and demo so basically make sure these guys live.

Get good at denying jumpers (use shotty instead of rockets if u cant airshot well)

make sure you know where the demo and medic are

make sure to read lefty's mind

Youll get good at it eventually, its really not hard. Just get good at deathmatch and stick with your medic. If he says stuff, do it. If he has even less experience than you in 6s, look for a new team.

In the event of a medic with less experience you have to be Prem babysitter, telling them what to do everytime.

Div 4 is a little more interesting, jumping soldiers! Practice dem airshawts.

Definitely, Div 4 is pretty much "the next step", where as Div 5 and 6 are like the entrytiers and varying on position in the tables just have different levels of scrubness to them. Div 4 is where scouts start to become the biggest threat in the whole game.

What I was getting at is if youre just starting out, pocket soldier is the best entryrole to play. You literally have the least responsibilities in a game, if you stick to your medic, all you have to do is not get killed. Teams vary with this but I prefer the medic making the calls in that duo, since he has the greater overview, so youre really not doing yourself a service if you just started playing and then have to make the calls because your medic is bad.

Where the most valuable part in playing pocket in a permanent team comes in is reading your medics playstyle. I played with the same soldiers for about 3 years before I joined WDG/Jebus' team and once we got that synergy going, we almost had to make no correctional calls, it was just "attack now" or "defend here". You will get into a lot of situations -even with experienced medics- where they will constantly tell you to stop, follow them or pick them up, everyone has a different playstyle.

Cool, our team already has a chemistry because all of our players have migrated from one Highlander team. I guess allot of it comes down to practice with your team.
