So after playing this a bit in SC2 and finding it amazing I decided to spread the word on one of my favourite games. Anyone played it before/plays? Summary from wikipedia if you've never heard of it before:

Players are secretly assigned roles: either "mafia", who know each other; or "townspeople", who know only the number of mafia amongst them. In the game's "night" phase the mafia covertly 'murder' a townsperson. During the day phase, all of the surviving players debate the identities of the mafia and vote to eliminate a suspect. Play continues until all of the mafia have been eliminated, or until the mafia outnumber the townspeople. A typical game starts with seven townspeople and two mafiosi.

Similar to that zombie survival game Die2Nite but is less about working together and more about dealing with lies and liars.

It's far more complex than it sounds and is incredibly good fun and of course it's really fun to see who's good at lying and who can work the other people over. Games typically last around 10minutes and you don't need to be concentrating 100% on it too, pretty great when idly watching a film or something.

All that gets lost in an online game with foreigners where all you have is chat

Except in the version I played it wasn't the Mafia it was werewolves and villagers (and a seer)

I've played it with theatre companies. It gets really bloody tricky when most of the players are actors.

I don't agree at all. The nature of the game forces you to tell lies and there are ways other than a nervous twitch to find out. If anything it just makes it easier on people who are naturally bad at body language. Give it a try, there is still a lot of information you need and I still find it fun. It's similar to saying poker is no fun unless it's irl, but betting patterns and odds are still there even with the absence of body language and stuff.

I suppose I've played the game with different motivation, to be specific because it's hilarious when someone completely messes up.

The funniest game I had, a few weeks ago during a social for my last show. One of the Mafia was a girl called Natalie, who was a terrible liar, and was accused during the very first day. In her defence she said "It was me, I killed the bastard". However, as she was so funny to play with we kept her in and killed the Director instead.

It later got to the point where she was the only member of the Mafia left, tried to commit suicide, but was saved by the Doctor and survived another few rounds.

You just don't get that sort of game on the internet.
