Anyway, I don't see the big advantage for a medic to see enemy health.

honestly, with the mann co store being what it is, it was only to be expected for tf2 to move towards free2play. Good thing: I can motivate some of my friends who haven't bought it yet to play as well. Bad thing: Noooobiiiiessss....

F2p...at least people will still have to go to the trouble of downloading the game

My only similiar experience was with Lord of the Rings Online...that was subscription-based moving to f2p. People were all full of doom and gloom especially as we were on the role playing server...would loads of noobs appear, griefing, taking the piss etc

I can remember us discussing if the kinship would have loads of f2players wanting to join, staying a couple of weeks, getting bored and buggering off, should we treat them differently..i.e. there would be no point of investing in someone, taking them through instances, gearing them up etc if they just left days later.

But in the end, not a lot changed. The lower level f2p areas did have a few griefer types for a while but they  moved on. The only 'extra' people applying to the kin were ex-members who'd let their subscriptions lapse returning and people's friends and partners deciding to give LOTRO a try.

 By now most people will either have played TF2, be playing it already, or have no intention of ever playing it. So I doubt we'll see much change, certainly in the long run. Maybe a few more noobies (and excuse me, I'm a scrub noname noob!), the admins may have their services called on a bit more on the server but overall I think we'll keep on as we are as PapaFade said.

As long as Valve keep on making sure everything in the Shop can also be obtained through drops or crafting (which Turbine has stuck to, they haven't made anything game-changing only available in the LOTRO store).

the free to play is great. it will be like anything else. first week or two there will be more idiots but once the initial hype dies down it will be business as normal with more people hopefully!

Totally disagree with this move (regarding public tf2). I just hope that it is not too damaging to the public server.

I doubt it'll have a significant impact on our server. The standard of play with our clan and regs is quite high and newbies will not stay long against such a steep learning curve. Plus with our server popularity (once it gets going) they'll not be able to join anyhow

That isn't really the issue. The issue would be the fact that potential hackers now have no issue in simply cheating, getting banned and repeating this process again on a new account.

As abda said, it has been a problem in other F2P games such as APB. It MIGHT make it quite irritating for server admins.

EDIT: Just noticed that Valve have replied to this concern, stating that they will "be keeping a close eye on players exploiting the ability to make infinite free accounts to bypass bans". If it works, great, but I guess it's just a wait-and-see process.
