Back on the topic of movies, 'Battle Royale 2' is one of the worst films I've ever seen. It's actually in the realm of comically bad.

Okay, since we're going anime only...

Haruhi Suzumiya is really, really good; more in depth in the plot department then most high school things, and I like the sarcastic narrator (who is entirely normal among strange things). Much more nuanced then many shows when the characters are not 1 dimensional and it isn't clear black and white evil organisations and bad guys, they don't exactly spell it all out to be easy to understand if you take it at any more then a high school thing. Series 2 is a bit dull in places, but in any case great stuff. Still waiting on the movie...

Angel Beats was a new one I watched recently; decidedly anti-school since it appears it is the afterlife, but a refreshingly nice short series without fanservice etc, which wraps up a decidedly heartwarming story quite well (with enough humour to keep it from going stale early on). Write up.

Baccano is a series I got a month or so ago; it stands out in places as being amazing with multiple threaded plots being played out in tandem, a good intro so you don't forget any of the characters, and something not set in Japan and set in an interesting time - mafia-era America, along with a strange mythological thing going on too - a plot you have to pay attention on but makes some real sense at the end. I wrote up this one too.

Avoid Noir and Air however, two series' shown at the anime club I go to and both disastrously dull or so pathetically plotted they're worse then average just for banalities sake - total thumbs down. Note however I didn't watch all of Air, but frankly if 4 episodes can't pull you in what can?

Started watching To Love-Ru after a friend at work recommended it.

Only watched four episodes so far, although some parts are quite good (funny or Faulty Towers style cringing are quite commonplace in this anime.) but I'm not putting it down yet. :-3

Spice and Wolf is an interesting mix, Hardcore medieval trading with a dash of Furry. Its Moeconomics.

The daughter of 20 Faces is worth a watch too. Gentlemen Thieves FTW.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Goodbye, Mr Despair) Is funny as fuck.

Miname-Ke Is also incredibly funny and charming.

Arakawa under the bridge Another lighthearted comedy with plenty of weirdness.

School Days is more interesting than it intially seems, won't spoil anything but it's the reason behind


I also have a secret love of the "Sports Anime" genre, Especially Hajime no Ippo (Boxing), Initial D(Drift Racing) Overdrive(Cycling) Capeta(Go Carting) Hikaru no Go (Go (Japanese strategic board game) Which is pretty OTT) and Yakitate!! Japan Which believe it or not is about Baking, and It's also the most hilariously ridiculous over the top thing I've ever seen.


Also everything I know about American Football, I learned watching Eyeshield 21

I'll also throw in Cat Shit One Which is a cool as hell one off animation, Think afghanistan black ops mission, but with cuddly animals instead of people. It's really well animated, the movement and tactics are very realistic.

Not really, anime just describes the art style etc, but can be either in movie or TV show form

School Days is on my To Watch list now I got it off a friend, who also recommended it.

I too would endorse Spice and Wolf, it's pretty amazing to find something that has lower key but highly interesting and intelligent plots, set in a medieval time which doesn't just have tons o' magic or whatever. The Daughter of Twenty Faces is also a fun romp with thievery and stuff. Not seen the others you mention Zarf, apart from a little of Cat Shit One, and heard of the Go one, which fascinates me.
