Everyone loves a list! Lets make things interesting though, you get 2 choices for each year; one classic, one stinker, for every year from 2000 to 2009. They have to be games you've played, you don't have to have played them when they were first released.

2000
  Diablo 2 - Close one, but for the sheer number of hours I pissed away on it, this is the clear winner!
  FFIX - Just no, boring cast, stupid story, didn't get past the first couple of hours.

2001
  FFX - Close one again, good year for the consoles this one, DMC and Red Faction the runners up.
  MGS2:SoL - I love it, yet I hate it. 20 hour game with 5 hours worth of gameplay and 15 of cutscenes. Put me off the series.

2002
  Timesplitters 2 - Greatest console FPS ever, 4 way, 4 team deathmatch = too many happy happy nights!
  Tony Hawks 3 - A bridge too far for Mr Hawks.

2003
  Beyond Good and Evil - Ropey fighting, epic storytelling. Only finished it last year but I absolutly love it!
  Enter the Matrix - The best bit was the hacking mini-game which pretty much says everything you need to know about this!

2004
  Half Life 2 - Best story telling in a single player FPS ever. UT2k4 close second
  Doom 3 - Atmospheric, but got repetative after the 35th hour in the same fucking corridor!

2005
  Resi 4 - Best (and only) Resi game I've had the patience to finish, partly due to the Merchant .
  SotC - WAIT! DON'T KILL ME! Ropey controls and general framerate issues ruined what could have been the best console game of the decade. Shame...

2006
  The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion - I played 40 hours with this game without touching the storyline. Biggest and best open world RPG I've played for ages!
  FFVII: Dirge of Cerebrus - Just shite. Pure, money spinning shite!

2007
  TF2/Orange Box - Doesn't really need any explanation does it?
  The Darkness - Totally put me off console FPS games, it was average, but I couldn't deal with dual analog stick aiming .

2008
  Mass Effect - I've had this game almost since it came out and never got into it until this weekend! The shootings a bit ropey and theres the odd framerate drop but it is a belter of a game! UT3 would've had this if I'd done this list last week.
  Little Big Planet - Didn't see the apeal at all, tried it, traded it in within a week.

2009
  Batman: Arkham Asylum - So many epic epic games last year, but this for me, was the best by a long long way.
  Painkiller Resurection - There is a rumor that the beta was released instead of the full version, I haven't played it since launch day as there was a bug that stopped you walking up stairs. Worst game ever!

TS2 is one of the best games to ever come out on the PS2, certain justified me having the console. but i disagree on tony halks 3 as that was the last one of that series i actually loved, pretty epic game and it didn't mess with the formula of the last 2 too much (but i may be alone in liking it)

   The Witcher Enhanced Edition (Mass Effect is brilliant in story telling ect. but I hate the planet-exploring stuff when you have to drive in that stupid car around... (More scripting please)

2009
  Dragon Age Origins (Like Mass Effect, no stupid car stuff, good stories, dialogues, characters, playtime - I really wanna see a sequel)

Haven't got around to playing much of the Witcher, but what I have played has been so-so at best so far, Plus, the boob physics is just plain odd!

I couldn't really get past the boobage with the Witcher(!), it put me off, plus there's some ridiculous sex dialogue going on. Maybe it's just a slow starter but it seemed a bit juvenile.

Pretty good list from Hzza... but I'd have Mafia in there too.

note: those AREN'T games that came out that year, just ones i played then.
2000: UT from 98... or something? not sure. the 1st multi one, that is. 1st FPS, and had great fun playing with the tele weapon (rest got banned by parents ) when i discovered that i could tele-frag someone (i.e my sister who pld with me)
the bad: CS, bleh. got owned too much to play
2001: AoE 2, too awesome for words
the bad: only done AoE 2 the whole year
2002/3: half life 1, best game evarr for me.
halo... tried, puked, threw away.
2004/5: half life 2 babey, go naked mod!
the bad: CS:S
06: surprise, CS:S! after bouncing back, i came back and got stuck with it until 07.
the bad: Halo 2, blehmeh
07/08: tf2, let's hope Extremer is wrong and it'll last a decade and moar!
the bad: Mass effect, though not exacto bad, just mixed feelings, some stuff v. good some shite
09: tf2 again
the bad: Far Cry 2, not horrible but so, so dissapointing after the 1st one D:
10 is not part of the decade, so not going to include :<>

Well I'm glad you finally got into Mass effect

I can't remember who or what came out in what year so I'll just put my 5 favourites:

1) Half life 2 + TF2
2) Mass Effect and KotOR - Decided to lump these together because they're similar games made by the same people
3) Call of Duty 2 - You have no idea how many hours I pissed away on this game with my Kar98k or Lee Enfield
4) Dynasty Warriors Empires - a completely pointless PS2 beat em up where you are an ancient Chinese warrior ploughing through enemy armies (yes, armies). Loved what little strategy there was behind it and the high number of characters with crazy weapons to try
5) ...Timesplitters 2 or FP. Contemplated putting pro evo in for sheer amount of hours spent but had some good times on this game.

And disappointments:

1) Final Fantasy Dirge of Cerberus - Thank you Hzza for lending me this shitty game you originally attempted to pass off as good.
2) Shadows of the Colossus - Looking pretty isn't much when there is fuck all else to do in the game.
3) Final Fantasy x-2 - I can't believe I spent money on this piece of shit game. For some reason still decided to complete it so I could say I did. Still not sure why. Far too much singing and dancing.
4) Dawn of War: Soulstorm - Why did everything take 20 minutes to load?
5) Anything to do with Halo. Really don't get that game.

And Hzza ff9 wasn't that bad really. Show me a Final Fantasy game with a good (or at least tolerable story) and I'll show you my million tits. And don't say ff7 had a good story, I did not find the tales of a blond emo chasing after a dead girl with no character compelling.

But it was so boring! A game of 15 boss fights and nothing else. Don't think I would of minded so much if there was mini games, side quests or random minions to slay.

seconded, epic game. tbh if there WAS random minions it would loose the charm and the storytelling it has. its important that apart from the character and the colossus there is no-one else around

would personally go for the first or more importantly the expansion, united offensive. CoD2 was the point where the game francise took a turn for the worse imo.

strangely enough i would agree with a dynasty warriors game, a very simple hack and slash game but endlessly satisfying.

not FP but 2. BEST GAME EVAR!!!!! one of my most played games of all time there, i literally cried like a girl when my brother (in a fit of assholeness) deleted my COMPLETED 100% save of it

Agree with Lazzars, I loved the story and the feel of the game, it was just the technical problems that stopped me finishing it. A game crying out for a remake if ever there was one!

I think I've played a game called TF2 which was ok....

All i know is that I'm waiting for the new final fantasy, and GT5
