the levels will never mean anything, robin confirmed via an email that got posted to the forums with screenie. The high levels are just for collectors, but have been removed from new items presumably because it was adding to idling. I don't think it was a glitch just new items could be created with a random level between 1-100. They ought to crack down on achievement box servers now its possible to get the weapons randomly. Also when are they going to stop idling its so retarded as is. I don't like this valve attitude of you can do achievements and get hats properly if you want, or you can just exploit cos we don't care.

I read/heard somewhere (I think it might've been the Gabe interview on GTTV the other week) that Valve are totally against idling and are trying to figure out a way of stopping it.

tbh though, people will always find an "easy" way to get things like this and there isn't a great deal that the devs can do about it. Just be the bigger person and don't do it (if you dislike it), score 1 for moral victory, but loose one for not having hats .

Uhhhm, require at least point kill per minute on the server, prevent spectaters to get items and telling the guy from the idle-tool to stop?

I think they should just increase the drop rate (1 roll per 5 mins, instead of every 30 mins) and have the probability changed (to make rare items still drop about the same amount).

That way all you idle bastards will just end up with full backpacks and won't get the hats anyway!

The idle tool has an option to delete duplicate items found, and also an option to automatically discard anything that isn't a hat. You can also delete duplicates based on item level (although this is irrelevant now)

Plus you can have more than 50 items in your backpack, they just aren't "placed" then.
