... the 10th TF2 character, indicated by a L4D Easter egg, will be the civilian...the VIP escort mode from Team Fortress will make a comeback.
Not seen this hint anywhere else so I don't know what truth there is in it.

Not sure really - but think that new map modes are what Tf2 needs (rather than lots of unlocks for individual classes - specifically since these unlocks mostly unbalance the game in the shorter term etc)
PLUS - who'd want to play an unarmed civilian? lol

Wasn't the civilian in TF a bot? Been a long time...
You're right though, new map modes definitely needed.

In TFC he was definately playable.
But I don't think it would work as well for TF2 though. All it would take is one competent sniper and then - LOSE LOSE LOSE

Actually, the logic says it wouldn't work (spies and snipers, etc.). So if Valve were to implement we might have something radically inventive.

I thought the payload gametype was designed as a spiritual successor to the escort. Sounds very similar, just without the pain of having a bad civilian.

Yep Chug, that's definitely been reported as the logic behind payload.
Maybe if the Civ's umbrella was like Valentin Zukovsky's...

I recall that each team could only have certain classes though, so there wouldn't be any spys. Think assassins had sniper, demo and soldier, and body guards soldier, medic, scout.
But yea, don't think it would work very well now

Nope assasins were forced to play sniper. Bodyguards were also able to boost the civilian with a rocket in the arse so that he could fly across the map avoiding any snipings.

I don't remember that being possible although the sollys could give him a slight boost while he was jumping to get him into the ducts/tunnels. I also seem to remember him being able to jump using a medics conc but it was hit and miss
