Noticed that and wondered if it was worth it
Thought I might prefer a post-Batman series with everyone just hanging around waiting for him to solve their crimes but he never turns up.
A sort of Waiting for Godot in the DC Universe.
It follows Batman's buddy, commissioner Gordon (then just a newbie detective) trying to figure out his first case (the murder of Bruce Wayne/Batman's parents) in a increasingly violent Gotham after the crumbling of the balance between the Falcone crime family and the wealthy Wayne family... basically setting the stage to show how the villains were born, why/how Arkham was built and how the kid grew into Batman.
It isn't a major re-imagining of the universe, more like a pulp detective novel set in Gotham on a pre-Batman era; although in a way the city of Gotham seems to be waiting for its Godot, only this one does show up to meet up with the bums... eventually
edit: I just remembered that bums in the UK has a different meaning than in the US. but I'll leave it like this, more entertaining
