@Junta: there is a new config_arena.cfg file which is executed after server.cfg. Quickest method: just delete it.  Done it already mate - but thanks anyway |

Yeah the thing about thats makes Badwater so easy as a spy is that there are a few alternate routes which nobody uses and then it means you can get right behind the entire enemy team. That might change once people get to know the map better though.

not worth the hype but still... its more balanced than the pyro update was... arena mode is good (let me finish lol) for small amouts of people. IE if theres 6 of yoou and its takng forever to cap a point or something its quite nice to just go fragging havnt tried badwater yet... looking forward to it |

Alrighty then, I've just tried a little Arena mode, here goes: Overall experience = Meh.
Sure, makes fore a change, rounds are usually short on small maps (lumber, well) so not too much waiting there, somewhat interesting choices of tactics, but all in all it just does not have the slight jenesaisquoi which makes me like the classic modes. I think what is missing to an extent is a bit of the team play, which should have a say in a game called TEAM Fortress...
Could really do with another alpine map though tbh, like the style. And I really want that sandvich at least, but right now it's no fun playing Heavy... Too much snipers about.
Badwater Basin is pretty good I guess. A bit too open for my taste, but it seems to work out. Not sure about the final cap though, never managed to get it while I've played...

I think the archievements are getting easier and easier. The medic was the most difficult. Pyro was much easier then the medic, and heavy is as easy as breathing. The arena mod.... maybe useful for Leagues but it's not very adequate for public servers with more then 12 people. And the sandvich have to be much bigger. It's a heavy, he needs a 700kg cow to get satisfied  |

personally i dont get the beef with arena... i do agree its not the best thing for a massive server... but for unwinding and just fragging its brilliant! Maybe something to think about for a 2nd server in the future? WDG Arena server or something similar? a 12 or 18 man server would be brilliant for the type of play it evokes |

Dave and I will be chatting over a second server option soon.
My beef with arena is that it (in my eyes) is a death match game - not a TF2 team play game. Yes there is an element of team play in that you can co-ordinate to stay alive.
I come back to my original comment: Its CSS with TF2 skins - why bother? Just play CSS instead for death matches.

I'm not sure- I never liked CSS but I had a quick run around on Lumberyard yesterday and enjoyed it quite a lot. It's faster than CSS (and a bit more exciting to watch when you die), and the class system adds something that a slight choice in guns doesn't give. You probably won't be surprised to hear that Dodgy Guy loves it.

Just so I don't sound totally like an ass, I'm not saying that we'd never have arena maps on a 2nd server (just because I don't like them). This is always an option - along with other custom maps. I'm not totally pig headed to the point where I'd deny the clan players something just because I don't like it myself. See. I'm nice really. |
