So, who's been upgrading? I've been running the Insider preview for a few months now, so I've had the final build for a couple of weeks now. All the games I've tried to run work, but if you have an NVIDIA graphics card you may want to turn off automatic driver updates as these will break your gameplay when they update. Here is a guide for fixing that.

Also it's worth noting that if you're dual booting with Linux (like me!), then the upgrade may turn on the "fast startup" setting, which you need to turn off to prevent the hard drive from corrupting when running your other OS. If you use the ntfs-3g driver, it will automatically prevent you from mounting any affected partitions.

Other things worth noting is that Windows by default shares your wifi passwords (encrypted) with your contacts and vice-versa so that you can use each other's Wifi networks. There is a switch to turn this off in the setup, but it's a little tricky to find.

My laptop didn't show the 'reserve your update' icon even though it's a fairly new one running 8.1 and I had run windows update through it until my eyes bled (I don't use it very often...)

My main home PC showed the icon but I haven't had anything say that it's finished/started downloading yet.

Is there a way to turn off automatic driver updating? I've usually found the updates through windows update to be terribly out of date so I never do them and get the drivers direct from the manufacturers website.

From what I have read its being rolled out bit by bit depending of hardware, demand and current Windows version. Had the update/download notification appear on my laptop but my home and work PCs have had nothing yet. All three had the app appear automatically a few weeks ago and I registered them all on the same day.

I have also been running the Insider Preview on my desktop for many months and it's my favourite version since Windows 7. Personally, I think Windows 7 is probably better, but for DX12 and Virtual Desktops I'm willing to make the switch.

I've had very few problems with the Insider Preview so far except that MSI Afterburner doesn't show the OSD, which is hardly a massive issue.

Im getting it mostly for all the Xbone features. Seems like a great companion OS if you have that console. Lets you turn on and control it from your PC even with a plugged in 360 controller and you can stream it through your home network.

Tried it out last night and pretty statisfied with it. The input delay is pretty minimal, the quality could be a bit better but they make it very clear in the app that they're still working on it and gathering streaming data from users but as it is now, its solid and good for people without a dedicated TV setup. Right now I use an HDMI switcher that has all my 4 consoles hooked up and with a remote I switch whats on my main monitor, being able to implement that directly into the Desktop OS is cool!

Overall Im very happy with the transition process. After downloading the setup data it took like 15-20 minutes to install everything and then it was already done, I had to reinstall my Nvidia and Logitech drivers but other than that everything was still there, same desktop, same icons, just a different taskbar and environment.

Ill give the cortana app a fair chance over the next few weeks and see how thatll work out. I liked it on my phone.

Trying to force the update through windows update completely failed. My laptop wouldn't install 1 update, I couldn't force the windows 10 download and despite following all the steps I could find on the internet it just kept failing to update.

My main PC I got to download the update but then it hung at 'Preparing for installation...' for an hour without moving so I gave up on that too.

I ended up using the Installation Media Creation tool which actually worked really well. I was able to select 'Update now' on my laptop and 'Create USB installation media' on my main PC, it took a little while to download but when I left for work this morning everything was installing/rebooting on both.

Providing the actual install is a success I should get home to both running Win 10.

When I get a bit of time I'll do a fresh install of Win 10 on my main PC once the upgrade is complete (you have to upgrade and then do a fresh install so that it does the 'free upgrade') onto my new shiny M.2 SSD (which is like 3x faster than my EVO 830).

TLDR: Windows Update still shit.

second boot under win10 I got bsod with critical failure, then I got stuck on a reboot - direct blue screen loop.
Going back to previous stable version didn't help, so I am back to win7 now.
Even though I would have liked to try it, this was too much wasted time and a bad start for my win10 experience.

Anyone noticed the improvements to dual screens? They actually have seperate resolutionsettings now so if you play something in fullscreen that has a lower res, your 2nd monitor doesnt spaz out or go black anymore, pretty cool
