There are a significant number of people here who like playing with crits. And throughout the game, many enjoy them as part of the game, which they are.
However, there is no doubt that the vast majority of regs on the server want no crits as well as the majority here (so far....it may change).
From a server marketing perspective, certainly going no crits would make it much easier. To be honest, I don't even think that is because it's 'no crits' as such. It's more that it's become accepted that 'no crits' = 'more experienced players and better server' = 'better TF2 experience' and that attracts people.
Whether this is true or not is irrelevant
(Having class limits in itself will attract players after a 'better game' as well)
It's a matter for us, that we carry on making sure that new and less experienced players feel welcome and have fun which I think we do even when the air is full of falling soldiers. One flip side of being perceived as a 'better server' is that we might get people with Attitude but we can deal with that.
And Server 2...yep. Crits on. No class limits. Standard maps. We can work out when we have sessions to the maximum benefit of our crits supporters here.

Now I'm really confused - I thought Server #2 would be quickplay no-crits as there are currently so few of them. It sounds like Server #1 is now being made into what currently Server #2 is but without some of the competitive custom maps. So why is no-one playing on Server #2?!?

Remember Server 2 at the moment has the ETF2L 6v6 whitelist. We tried to fill it but it just didn't work and numbers dropped week by week until there was only a handful of us playing all evening and that was with me advertising on every forum I could think of. It just didn't get the support and it was dispiriting and not how I for one wished to spend my Tuesday evenings. To be honest, the thought of trying to do all that again makes my heart sink.
As I see it Server 1 is the IP address that people have in their favourites list. Changing to another server i.e. Server 2 is risky. Personally I prefer to configure Server 1 to what the majority of players want (no crits, class limits, maybe custom maps) rather than shifting everyone over to a no crit Server 2 for Tuesdays and Fridays.
Server 2 was going to be quickplay no crits for the reasons you said and I said, but as we can see from the poll a lot of people here want crits (5 v 8 ) and we shouldn't ignore that (and Hawker made the point about diversifying our appeal anyway). That is now the issue. Things have changed from what they were.
The very simplest solution would be to drop class limits on Server 1 and turn that into the QP no crit server (leaving Server 2 as whatever) but wanting class limits rules that out.

Getting #2 going has always been a problem. I personally doubt getting both going at the same time is currently viable. Getting #2 going instead of #1 might work out, but that would require deliberate cooperation by the "starters"

I thought the general idea was to make Server #2 Quickplay enabled, with no crits - this fills a niche that doesn't have very many servers in the quickplay matchmaking - therefore I'd hope that it would get more traffic on it's own with less advertising required (because there were only 9/20 servers shown in my QP list for no-crit servers - versus hundreds of crit quickplay servers).
I also agree with Cruel that in the entire history of WDG - Server #2 has never really succeeded as a public server (the competitive style server was the closest we've ever gotten to success with it). Nice thread - so many of the things raised are things that have been discussed previously at some point in the clan's history!
That leaves Server #1 - for which the general consensus seems to be to take it off quickplay and keep the classlimits. Everything else (crits, weaponspread, reserved slot kicking, custom maps, maxplayers [=24]) seems to be a bit up in air at the moment but even though it's only full 2/7 days a week - I think it's still fairly successful. Obviously do what's in the best interests of the clan/players but apart from people griping about crits - most people still comment on how the great the server is so is it a really good idea to change too much?
If you appease the established community too much (crits off, dmg spread etc. - I mean the clan provided a server that almost exactly fills those requirements + the whitelist and that still failed to launch), do you risk losing even more new traffic on Server #1?
Turning off Quickplay doesn't seem to have had any impact on the Tuesday/Friday events this last week:
So maybe Quickplay is irrelevant after all as we are still able to fill the server even when it's switched off. I'd almost be tempted to suggest leaving it off for longer and compare the results.

I would agree, I see no reason to switch on Quickplay at the moment for Server 1. And I agree about the general idea for Server 2.
We have managed to fill it on both Fridays and Tuesdays so far (though we must acknowledge the assistance of the 'paralleograms' in this...all of whom want no crits). I also have a feeling that it could be full more often if we had the people to start it up.
You could ask if we appease the established community who want crits on, do we risk losing even more new traffic on Server 1. We may even loose some regs who might find a no crit server somewhere else they prefer - they all play on servers apart from ours. Before, when asked why we have crits on, I've always said we had crits because of QP; personally I dislike crits and want them off, though they are not a dealbreaker for me. That has always been accepted.
It's an impossible situation!
Oh yes, don't let the comp server influence things too much.
1) It was marketed as a comp style server specifically aimed at the more comp-minded players (who often couldn't join because they, well, were playing comp)
2) The whitelist put off some of our core server starters
3) People who joined it wanted a SERIOUS game. When the server started, often people were chatting and mucking about (how else could we pass the time). This was not SERIOUS and so they left. You don't join a serious comp style server to see a scout trying to stand on a heavy on granary mid, however much we marketed the server being fun as well.
And then I lost the heart to drive it any more.

I guess with that plus the votes from server regs means the server will go nocrit.
We've also had requests for damage spread off and fixed weapon spread on. I can understand why people like to play with crits on, are there any similar reasons why players might not like this?
We can carry on thinking about Server 2 and QP and what we want to do about playing with crits on
Regarding custom maps on Server 1. We already have the custom maps we voted for ages ago, on the server. They just need to go on the !nominate menu along with the other maps which can be done anytime.
Edit: nodamagespread is now an option in QP after the last update. Valve must have forgotten to add it
