The campaign I'm writing/planning will probably be long and sanity draining, in modern time (even though 1920'ies look fun).
In it's essence, the investigators will be trapped in a town under military lock down orchestrated by some sort of government agency.
People are disappearing from the town and are never seen again.
What's causing the disappearances is an Elder God under the "control" of a local organization who wants to remove all undesirables (mostly people illegally in the country). The Elder God will be a mix of, and this will be kind of cliche, slenderman (by virtue of appearing and disappearing and taking people with it) and
The Smiling Man in appearance and how it acts.
Of course this organization is puppeteered by two members (not leaders), who are actually members of a almost dead cult worshipping this god, and who wants the god to be completely free to roam earth.
Also the Senior agent of the agency, who has a good amount of knowledge in the occult as well as the mythos, is trying to get his hands on the ritual as he has his own definition of undesirables.
I'm well aware that I should plan my characters, but I don't know whether or not I should plan ahead for things they can say, or if I should just get in the characters head and go from there.
I'm also having problems with minor confrontations with lesser stuff that actually can be killed or otherwise dealt with. Cultist could be a solution, but here there's only 2 actual cultist who will do everything to appear normal.
The warhammer game is d100 like CoC, and it is also just as deadly. Just with worse healthcare for wounds, but you can have magic healing. While the system is high fantasy, magic is shunned and very dangerous. everytime you cast a spell there's a chance something horrible might happen. Like all milk nearby curdles or you open up a rift into the warp where the demons residing drags you kicking and screaming through and you're never heard from again... or somewhere in between.
It's also the only RPG I've played as I played pen and paper for the first time last year.
Thanks for the links, I'll definitely check out the yog-sothoth site. I'll probably also buy Tatters of the King, the reviews looks good.
