The Tuesday events have been going for a while now, so I thought we should have a review of how everything is going.

So far in my experience it's been very mixed. The first week we had a lot of people (there was even a queue), many of whom seemed to enjoy it. We had a lot of support on various forums too. However since then, it's been very up and down.

On a couple of weeks we've had 16ish but this week we had 6 (and 2 of those for the company rather than the server) and a couple of weeks before that we had 3.

So, what to do. I really enjoy playing on the server, I like the lack of annoying weapons and I like the smaller player count. But, spending an evening waiting on a server that doesn't fill, I like less. So I don't know.

To be honest, I don't think it's just the config. I think we simply don't have enough people with the server favourited and in the habit of checking us out but places to advertise are limited without the danger of spamming accusations. The server really needs to spread through word of mouth, friends lists etc. Also TF2 seems to be permanently in one comp season or another these days (6v6 or HL) so perhaps a lot of our potential players are simply scrimming or in matches.

So maybe we should go back to Server 1, build up that a bit more (have some Tuesday nights there instead) and leave Server 2 as an option for us to jump on if there are enough keen regs who want to do so on a particular evening. Perhaps we should revisit the no-crits vote on Server 1. Or tweak the whitelist on Server 2 and keep on.

Anyway, any thoughts welcome

Not been free the last 2 (3?) Tuesday nights so not been able to help fill.

As with most servers most people won't join until there are 8 to 10 people on the server unfortunately. Dunno whether it is worth pushing people to join the Steam group so that they get notifications of the event by posting on the usual forums etc (might feed Fridays as well).

Only other thought is whether it is worth speaking to the people who run tf2lobby.com or TF2Pickup.net and seeing if they would be interested in some form of partnership whereby they promote the server on their site as a place to play whilst waiting for a lobby to fill - and you promote them on the server. Could maybe see if they could write a plugin so that people would get notified of free lobby slots when playing on the server or if a player's lobby is ready (could even type !join to go straight to their match server when ready - which is something I have seen on HH and I think UKCS as a means to switch between servers).

I don't think anyone runs tf2lobby anymore..it's gone down a few times and no-one has known who to contact.

TF2Pickup...looks a bit intimidating

There was someone who started a no-crit server a while ago. It was successful for a few weeks but has now died a death. He formed a steam group and everything. He popped onto Server 2 a couple of times and has friended Deadly. It might be worth talking with him.

As said, server 2 can stay as an option and we can see if we can get something going on Server 1 on Tuesdays, which seems to be easier, for the time being. We had a full server for a couple of hours last week.

I have been experimenting with advertising. The weeks that I have posted everywhere I can think of have about the same turnout as weeks when I haven't posted anywhere. It does seem to be down to whether or not people have the server favourited in their browser. We haven't reached a sufficient critical mass to have enough people with it favourited to be able to get the server going and keep it going consistently. I noticed on the thread in ETF2L, that when I bumped it, it got hardly any extra views i.e. those that were interested had already read it. Same for other forums. So really after the first couple of weeks, the threads had done their work. Unfortunately creating new threads = spamming risk.

Speaking to the no-crit chap is an option, but it's a definite piece of work and I tbh want to give it a bit of a rest for the moment.

So what you're sayiong is we should just play on server 1 while complaining about minisentries and crits and the like

Which is what half the people on every server I play on seem to do!
