DRM enforced at the OS level is a whole different thing to what steam currently does. That means interfering with all sorts of things. Not something I will be using although I hope they keep making their linux drivers available to other linux distros.

again though contradicts what jebus posted about requiring propriety DRM at the OS level. I suppose it might be removable? But I assume thats something they won't allow or want people doing? Theres not much point at the moment making guesses until they tell us real details or put the download up.

That quote said it will contain DRM, not that it is at the OS level

It's just going to be Ubuntu + Steam preinstalled (and maybe a few tuned launch services so it comes up with big picture instead of whatever Ubuntu Desktop ends up showing after it's done booting these days). Calling it now.

Odd, my phone didn't even ring.... And, I suppose I could call you a buffoon in return, would that do?
I'd prefer debian as well, but my guess is that someone dropped a "nyer nyer but upstart boots faster and who wants to see a gaming box boot for more than 2 seconds nyer" somewhere along the lines, hence my prediction.

Yeah you could be right.
Either way it's cool news but it'snot gonna change my life if they still make some games windows only, I'm probably still going to have windows on my next pc. Maybe the PC after that will be steamos/ubuntu dual boot but idk.

Yeah, I haven't since the oven broke. Couldn't justify/afford that and a mechanical keyboard (mind you haven't bought the keyboard yet)

Downloading it now - will try it out in a virtual machine to see what it's like. I'm not expecting much more than a boot to steam big picture mode though.

So Microsoft would consider it ready for release?
