[Dodgy]

Just finished this and I would highly recommend it to those interested in story-driven games. It uses a lot of environmental storytelling techniques from games like Bioshock (the lead designer worked on some of the Bioshock games), but it tells a more personal story and it does so without relying on mans-shooting gameplay to pad out the game length (something Infinite was particularly bad at imo).

I won't say much about the story since it's best played without knowing anything in advance, but it's one of the best story-driven games I've played and it's nice and short (~2 hours).

Yes I agree with everything positive said about this. It's a really clever game-y way to deliver an epistolary novel(?, I had to lookup the english translation, you would call it a "Briefroman" in german literature). The 90s nostalgia hit me hard, they payed great attention to detail. Id say this worked a lot better than Dear Esther because the leveldesign, as in progressing through, felt more natural and I didnt need to hold down the forward key for 2 minutes before getting to the next bit of story. And its a thousand times better than that turd Home.

Funny that the lead designer worked on Bioshock because I feel like that game does the exact opposite, where all the recordings and letters you find seem so out of place, like "heres a guy recording something for no reason when suddenly he gets murdered and he left the tape on his desk all glowing and shiny". That was the worst in Infinite.

The more I think of Gone Home and Bioshock: Infinite the more I feel that the former is the game I wanted the latter to be.
