I can invite you all to a party so you can all play for free (if I understood the swarm thing right) - can do some big 4v4 games or something else depending on numbers!

If its anything like the free starcraft versions of old, it'll only allow a couple of single player games, and some sort of limited multiplayer functions.

For example, when a Starter Edition player joins a party with a Wings of Liberty-level player, both are instantly playing Wings of Liberty. When those two players then join a party with a Heart of the Swarm-level player, they all immediately gain access to Heart of the Swarm content, and they keep that access until their party no longer includes any higher-expansion level players.

So... deadly is right unless I'm reading it wrong too or something

Yeah, I think that's basically how I understood it too - if you join a party with someone who has the full game (either WoL or HotS) then you get access to the full game while you're in the party.

I've never played any SCII, but willing to try ofcourse. Seems you can only play terrans, but no problem with that.

Oh yeah - I also just remembered that I'm not here on Sunday. Might be best to leave SC2 from the vote until I come back!

But yes - you can play the starter edition anyway (it's a limited version that you can only play terran and only do certain types of games e.g. vs AI) but if you join a party/group with someone who has the full game then you also get access to the full game (well in terms of multiplayer...you don't get to play the campaign) while you're in the party.

How much have you played / what level are you? When I played on WoL ladder I got up to gold but not done any laddering on HotS.

I think using the 'spawning' feature you bypass the race restriction of the start edition.

There's lots of things I could think of to entertain people for an evening of SC2 - there's lots and lots of custom maps/game types (custom maps can change the game entirely...) that are popular and fun to play - even for people who have barely played before. Some are things like monobattles (where you can only build 1 type of attacking unit, randomly assigned to you), Nexus Wars (where you build waves of units to counter enemy waves of units to try and reach their base) and some more bizarre things involving poker or warioware style minigames.

Yeah you do. Plus in order to celebrate SC's birthday, they temporarily enabled all races, but I'm not sure if this is still active
