« on: November 25, 2012, 02:09:43 PM »

- Some bases have shields. If a shield is up it will display a symbol on it. Look for the same symbol in your surroundings, that is the generator you have to take down to disable the shield. You don't have to shoot at the generator to destroy it, just press E on them and they will go into overload. Then make sure you wait until the end and no one from the enemy team stops the process. CAREFUL: When this thing blows, everyone in the room usually dies. Wink

- When capturing the base, check out the numbers at the cap points, they usually look like 0/1, 1/2 or something like that. The second number shows how many people can influence the point at once (accelerates the speed of you taking over the base) the first number shows how many of the team currently holding that point are actually next to it. If the point is full, being next to it doesn't accelerate, but you still might want to hang around, incase the enemy tries to clear it.

- If you are in a Galaxy (transport airship), don't be afraid to jump out. You won't die of fall damage, unless you hit a slope and keep falling afterwards. Some Galaxy pilots will just eject everyone on the ship without landing, so don't get scared, just be careful of what you land on.

- Call V -> 2 for heals, V -> 3 for repairs, V -> 4 for ammunition. If anyone of the fitting class is close to you, they will be notified of your request.

- Press "Insert" to join a random squad operating at your current position. This will help get some direction for the game and give you a couple of people to stand next to you, so you don't get shot first. To leave a bad squad, press P, look for your name in the list and click the icon to the right of your name. While in the squad, you can adjust the volume levels of the whole squad channel or a memeber of a squad individually (same for people who are closeby, but that's usually not worth it, since they are coming and going, changing constantly).

- Make sure you know what key your "Squad Voice" is. There is also "Local Voice" key, which is usefull if multiple squads are operating in the same area. I do believe that the enemy nearby can hear you when you're using it, though.

- MAX costs some ressources to spawn in and you cannot capture points with it. It is very good for defending them though and can be set up as anti-air, anti-armour or anti-infratry. You are basically a walking turret.

- Use your first certs points to get every cert that only costs 1 cert point. The most important being Medkit or Restauration Kit. The difference is, Medkit restores your health immediately, restauration kit does it over time. I think the kit heals more. Make sure, you actually buy some of those and equip them in your class loadouts. You just select them like you would any weapon and press the mouse button.

- Q spots everything. People who play Battlefield will feel right at home. Make sure you spot someone/something BEFORE you engange them/it. That way if you fail, your team can still know there is something to shoot at. Hold Q while aiming at different things to get a menu, for example to request transport and other similar things.

- I found heavy assault is a nice class for beginners. Good alround weapons, usefull against infratery and machinery and has a special ability which basically grants you a second shield on top of your first one. (Disclaimer: I only tried it with Vanu).

- While riding a vehicle at night, use "L" to turn off the flashlights, otherwise you are a sitting duck for everyone who is even a mile away from you.

- Press "Page down" to open Vehicle administration menu. You can make your vehicle only available to you, to your squad or to everyone on your team. This is also where you can desintegrate your vehicle if you don't intend to use it anymore, thus denying an enemy the points for eventually destroying it. I think desintegrating the vehicle also resets the timer, which would otherwise prevent you from spawning the same vehicle right away.

- There is a meelee attack in this game. It's on T or middle mouse button. If you use it on someone, his shields are immediately disabled, so you just have to shoot him 3 times and he is down.

- Some bases cannot be entered from the ground level if not under your fractions control. Look for jumping pads, which will take you to one of the upper levels.

- ENTER to chat, Ctrl+Tab to jump between the channels (local, squad, platoon). BACKSPACE to answer to someone who just whispered you.

Nice tips, I didn't know most of those

Here are a few more

Anyone can get any vehicle providing you have enough resources and the right access point unlike the original where you had to spend cert points.

You can trial before you buy weapons

To get into certain bases you need to destroy enemy generators to take down shields.  The locations and distances are shown on your main screen HUD as are the ABCD locations you need to capture and lots of other stuff I'm not 100% on.

- Friendly fire is on, so watch out when crossing the road, it is easy to get run over and not so easy to stop a tank on full speed. The result sucks for both of you, so just be careful.

- Light assault has a jetpack (the only class that has). Hold space to use it. It runs out eventually, but it's enough to get to some ground where no one expects you.

- While using Instant action (press M for map, look for markers with the world "Deploy") you will be dropped from the sky, like the first time you join the game. If you are dropping onto a base, try and hit its roof. Usually grants you a bunch of free kills, because no one expects you to be behind and above them on their own base.

- After joining a squad, if the squad leader has the ability unlocked (at least I think that's what it is) you can push "Insert" to deploy in the base next to his location. Not sure how it works 100%, look out for the text prompt to do that in the corner of your screen.

- If you are stuck in a place where absolutely nothing is going on, go into your menu (Escape) and press Redeploy. It will despawn you after 10 seconds and you can join any available point after a short wait (I think it's 15 more seconds).

- If you have hit the limit on ressources (it's 750), use them to hoard stuff that you might not be able to afford later, like grenades, medkits or restauration kits, C4 and so on. While using a infrantry terminal (the one with a Weapon sign on it), click on the Item you want to buy and click "Buy" or something (on the right side). Every time you respawn you will get an item restocked out of your stock until you run out, so it's a good idea to have a lot of that stuff, even if you don't need it right now and hey, otherwise you're just not using the ressources you have.

- Sunderers are mobile spawnpoints, which can also carry 12 persons (like galaxy, but on the ground). With an unlock a Sunderer can be setup to also act as a mobile Infrantry terminal, allowing you to restock your ammo and grenades and whatever, by using the terminal on its side. I think to do that it has to be deployed, which means it cannot move and has to be made mobile again, before driving. Sunderers in general are very heavy armored and a good place to be if you're trying to hide.

- Switch your place in a vehicle with the F1-F12 keys. Who sits where and what kind of seat it is is shown in the list on the right side of the screen when in the vehicle.

- Check this post for all the PS2 lingo: http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/index.php?threads/planetside-2-glossary.46993/

I definitly recommend buying all those 1 point certs, even in your more used vehicles.  It took me 4 levels till I got my mind into how to play the game.  It really improves play if you are part of a squad who knows what they are doing.

When driving T changes the view (essential when driving a Sunderer) and B deploys.  You can use a Sunderer as a respawn point only if you spend 50 cert points on the respawn utility.  Its also worth spending a few of the one point certs on the vehicles you use most.

I was just about to mention that after wondering why my Sunderer wasn't deploying last night.

If you can't be arsed to capture the main bases go to the smaller bases surrounding it on the map, capture them (find the "A" on your HUD/map) and cut it off, it's more interesting and you don't have to wait ages for the base to be capped.

What is even more useful is capping the sattelite bases around big bases. Those don't have any points, just a token that can be flipped fairly quick, it's a sign with an upward arrow in it. You can have sattelite bases capped, even if the main base doesn't belong to you. Usually it has some useful stuff, like jumping pads or teleporters into the main base or at least a spawn room nearby the base and some vehicle spawn terminals.

Usually those bases can be quickly flipped with even a small squad with 4-5 people on them and helps your team advance or deter the enemy team advancement, depends on if you are attacking or defending right now.

Also, if someone is attacking a base and your defence is solid, you can try going behind them and take over the sectors of the enemy leading to your base. If the base is not connected to one of their sectors, they cannot take it over even if they win the fight. Also cutting off bases stops the ressources delivered from those bases, so it's kind of a (very slow) wearing thin of available ressources for the enemy base (especially useful when attacking a big base). Might even go as far as the enemy not able to spawn heavy battle tanks and stuff, depending on how you cut off the base.
