me gusta. fun, but pretty brutal. my guys die....alot. but im being a douche and not playing on ironman made (or whatever it is), so if shit goes tits up I just reload. currently my soldier Lt Burnalot is top fragger, followed by Cpl Karthus.

I am save scumming a bit atm as this is my first actual xcom. Mostly just reloading when I do something truely stupid. I lost a major in a big mission and there wasnt much I could have done so left him dead. Although slightly regretting that now as theres an achievement for having a guy survive every mission and he was the guy who survived the dumb tutorial mission.

I don't think the game really imparts the importance of satellite uplinks to you. All your spare cash at the start should be spent on them. I left it a bit late and lost mexico to panic and my income was a bit shit for awhile.

I wouldn't if you've never played xcom before. Its a struggle even on normal with saves for me. And theres an irritating interface bug I get sometimes. About once every 5 missions it locks up and you can't do anything except end turn. Sometimes its ok but i've had a colonel die because of it already. So i'd do a normal playthrough now and do an ironman once the first patch has tidied up the (very few) bugs. Theres a few other minor ones where the interface doesn't update as soon as it should, and the autosaves do weird things but you can work around those.

Seriously the game does not tell you enough about the satellites. Thats like missing from the tutorial but it seems if you get full coverage over a continent you get the continent bonus as well? I can't get the north american one now because of mexico but some of the others are nice bonuses. Also given that you can earn the bonuses through satellites starting in say south america seems like a really bad idea. South americas bonus sucks and you only need 2 satellites in the air to get it, compared to 4 for europe and asia and 3 for north america and africa all of which have pretty solid bonuses.

Ya.

The interface bug happened again when I ran an assault up to a heavy floater to stun it. This time the game let me save, and then loading the save sorted the interface out, but previously when my colonel died it refused to save. If ironman will let you save and quit mid-mission then this is a possible workaround but still I think it could do with its first patch before commiting yourselves to ironman.

it went surprisingly well. The guy who disarmed the bomb with 1 second on the clock was shit out of luck and got ambushed by 6 enemies on overwatch. But then he dodged 5/6 reaction shots and got the fuck outta there. Certified badass. His name is Jack O'Conner from ireland, anyone want to rename him or be him?

The other rookies had power armour and light plasma though so aliens shooting them and making them panic just tends to get plasma in the aliens face from panic fire. Its kinda funny. The enemy level was kinda low though bomb missions are weird and I think intended as rookie training.

I do find it funny when it's like "oh look, that dude with the massive gun is panicked, I guess that means free kills for my team".

Abda: top fragger with 15 kills
LtMama: second top fragger with 11 kills (unfortunately died a slow, poison related death after shotgunning his way into a UFO. taken2sewn).

Honourable mention goes to Dodgy, who died saving several civilians in Glasgow.
Dishonourable mention goes to Mode, who somehow managed to miss an 85% chance sniper shot that cost Jebus his life. Thanks again MODE. I'VE FOUND MY DOOR OPENER.

Once I get a 6 man squad size this is pretty much going to be "FnR! does: saving the world".

EDIT: I'm also playing in Classic + Ironman mode, so uhh, yeah. I expect this campaign to end tragically at some point. I'm guessing it'll be all mode's fault again.

I just finished my first/second game (first finish, second attempt, first one I got a bit bogged down due to lack of satellites). Game is awesome, feel that the ending was a bit of an anti-climax. I hope they remake the sequels to the original as DLC, would be awesome.
