Option 1:1. Connect to the #tf.wars channel.http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=#tf.warsOR Option 2:1. Download and Install an IRC client.I use mIRC (
http://www.mirc.com/install.html) but other clients are available - Xchat etc.
Once you have downloaded and installed it, you will be asked to register your copy of mIRC for the first 30 days. Just ignore it and click continue - I think you can pretty much do this forever?
2. Connect to a serverOnce you have clicked continue, a window should popup called mIRC options. If not click 'tools' and then 'options'. Under the connect category;
- Enter a nickname and alternative. These are how you will be identified and have to be unique.. so you might end up having to put a few characters in front or after your name.
Next click the sub-category 'Servers' under 'Connect'. Scroll down the list until you get to QuakeNet. Double click the file and then click to highlight 'Random UK server'. Then on the right click 'Select'. When you return to the original form, your server option should now show 'QuakNet: Random UK server'.
Finally click connect.
3. Request an authorisation emailYou should now be connected to the UK QuakNet server. If a favorites channel window pops up, untick 'Pop up favourites on connect' at the bottom and then close it.
In the main window type,
/msg Q hello EMAIL EMAIL(replace each EMAIL with your full email address)
If you have done this correctly you will recieve an email. Otherwise a message will come up explaining what you have done wrong.
4. Authorise your accountYour email will contains a link to a page with your username and a randomly generated password. It will explain how to authorise your account, but the easiest way is to copy and paste the line of code it provides you with, which looks like this:
/auth [your_username] [your password]5. Connect to the #tf.wars channel. To connect to the #tf.wars channel, simply type:
/join #tf.warsin the message box.
6. Quick connectTo save time after you have gone through the process the first time, you can provide mIRC with a list of commands you want it to enter, which will mean that once you open mIRC it will log you in to your channel straight away.
To do this go to 'Tools' then 'Options'. Under the category 'Connect', click the subcategory 'Options', then click 'Perform...'
Tick the box 'Enable perform on connect'. In the 'Perform commands:' section type:
/auth [your_username] [your password]
/join #tf.wars
/join #wdg.war
Then click okay. Now when you click connect you should go straight to the correct channels. I have also included the WDG channel

.
Search for a gameOnce in the channel (via either method) let people know you are looking for a game by posting the following info:
format | etf2l division | do you have a server you can play on (yes=on, no=off)
so an example for new players from wdg would be:
6v6 div 6 onPeople looking for that skill level will then get in contact - equally if you see a suitable request ping them a message. You may need to repost your message every 5-10min or so if the channel is quiet. Best times are 8pm-10pm.
Make sure you have your team ready before advertising. People tend to get a bit pissy if it takes any more than 5-10min to start the match.
