Arx Fatalis was amazing though totally broken at the same time. Even with all the bugs it was one of the best RPG's i've ever played. I was never able to finish it due to ctd near the end for me, but I heard it's recently been patched.
The devs just seem to have these amazing visions that they either can't complete or have to rush out, with only 2 completed games in the last decade, and with Arx Fatalis a 2002 game patched again in 2011, almost a decade later, both shows how much they care and also that they can't quite deliver the finished product.
In essence, I've my fingers crossed for ages about this game but i'm scared to pre-order.
I don't think it will be a bioshock though, despite the fact they worked on some of the artwork on bioshock 2. Bioshock for me was a slick well-polished game with simple mechanics and not much else, just like every other bioware game since KOTOR II, whereas if Arx Fatalis is anything to go by this will be an original, despite the fact that it looks like a cross between Deus Ex and Assassins Creed with possibly some Omicron thrown in.

If you pre-order on steam you get Arx Fatalis for free which is a first person RPG, supposed to be good, never played it (only £3 on steam anyway). On Amazon it's £27.99 and you get the Acrobatic Killer Pack pre-order bonus which is explained here. At Tesco it's £29.96 £24.96 (use discount code "GAMES5OFF" for a fiver off a game pre-order) and you get the Shadow Rat Downloadable Upgrade Pack.At shopto.net it's £24.85 and you get the Backstreet Butcher Downloadable Upgrade Pack. I started this and after an hour or so I died. The game put me back all the way to the fucking beginning. Apparently this doesnt even have an autosave.

Oh that sucks.
I honestly hate games that expect you to save for yourself. It's stupid. I like games best that don't have a quicksave but have a great autosave.

One of the tooltips after that happened to me said "Save often." Its like the game was mocking me  Right now I cant really be bothered with starting all over again, the beginning was pretty slow already and alot of tutorial-stuff, meh. Maybe in a few weeks again. EDIT: Googled it. Apparently autosaves are on by default, but they happen veeery rarely. I guess I was right in front of the next checkpoint. That really sucks, why the fuck would you spread out 2 checkpoints over an hour worth of gameplay? In a game like this where you go into new levels alot (with loading inbetween), it would only make sense to automatically save everytime you enter a new area. Deus Ex did that really well. |

To be fair I was quick saving a lot as I was trying to avoid being detected and so was reloading when I had to kill someone so that prob made it feel okay. But am pretty sure it was saving at key changes of location - like once you escape the prison.
