Ive actually started playing again recently, theyve patched a lot and improved the game. World vs World has gotten a handful of tweaks and it now has its own ranksystem with unlockable titles and skilltrees so there actually is a meaningful "endgame" in that portion of the game now. Thanks to some fanmade tools its pretty easy to know where Worldbosses spawn now and its a good way to farm stuff, much more fun than doing the questchain in Orr all the time like how it was when the game launched (which originally made me bored). Guilds now have a set of missions every week that consist of objectives like "Find these three rare NPCs" or "Finish this jumping puzzle in under 5 minutes with atleast 15 guild members". It brings much needed sense to having guilds besides the traits you get for influence points. Theyve added new dungeons, just today theyve released a new storyline with a new dungeon, they also said theyre implementing raids soon, thats something Ive hoped for.

Its definitely worth checking out again if you havent played for a few months!

(The guild we made unfortunately is pretty abandonned now and Ive joined one of my friends guilds which has alot of traits unlocked and has an active community for the missions, so dont waste influence points on our guild, its pretty much dead )

It's always struck me how little is done to support guilds/kinships etc in mmos when often they're the only thing keeping people logging on to a game especially when they start to exhaust the end content.

WoW does quite a lot now I think, but apart from providing kinship housing Lord of the Rings does very little even though there've been asked to provide more for ages now. The Secret World has cabals and even though I haven't joined one yet, I don't play enough to make it worth it, I've heard that there is very little support for cabals there.

Well in WoW they never needed to implement additional rewards to guilds because they were incentive enough since those were the only ways you could see highlevel raidcontent, there werent really any random groups going at the time and most of them were not successful. Ofcourse now thats a relic since they added Dungeonfinders and dumbed down content for casuals.

In Guild Wars theres no equivalent to challenging highlevel content, so there really were no reasons to be in guilds besides the perks you get from influence points like reduced teleport costs etc. I like how they give options to have WvW centered guilds too, theres a whole subcategory where your guild could spend influence points just on WvW stuff like battering rams or trebuchets.

Theyve just revamped the way theyre shipping out content for this game. Their new plan is to release new Meta-events like the current Dragon whatever fireworks festival every two weeks. Thats crazy ambitious for a game without a monthly fee, Im very curious to see whether or not its just going to be lazy made stuff or actual meaningful content. The first one is coming tuesday but looks very promising, its bringing new events and a new skycity (besides the revamped achievement stuff)

Theyve also come out and openly said that theyre not planning an expansion or GW3 in that regard and rather want the world to change slowly over the course of time with these two week updates. Its a really interesting approach and like I said, if they prove to produce good content even under this new pressurous schedule, it might be something similiar to a WoW addon, where the focus of players will change from a landscape to another.

Looks like microtransactions are working well enough for them to keep doing what theyre doing.

You buy the game and thats basically it. They have a giant cashshop with purely cosmetical things for your town outfit or skins you can apply to your armor (I bought a charr plush backpackskin a few days ago with leftover gems from when I played at launch) and theres also boosters and services you can buy like additional bank or bag slots to servertransfers and namechanges. Its pretty legit, the one questionable thing you might be negative about is that the amount of bank slots you start with is very limited. I bought a 2nd bank cave immediately at launch because I felt like it was just too small especially when youre trying to level up a craftskill. But apart from that Id say its a fine way to have microtransactions, most of the more ridiculous and questionably stylebreaking visual items are limited to your townclothes so you wont see them in combat.

So if they go by their new agenda there will never be a real DLC for this game that youll have to pay for. It would lead to the theory that theyre microtransactions are selling well enough, eventho they offer you a way to convert gold to cashshop gems and the rate for them is pretty good actually.

Guild Wars 2 is F2P this weekend - if anyone is interested in giving it a go. They keep adding lots and lots of free content as part of their 'living story' thing which is cool - for a game with no subscription costs.

I've still got plenty to do so I'll probably try and play some more at some point.

Yeah the living story stuff and new content every 2 weeks makes this a perfect game to pick und and play. Well worth checking out.

I think most of you are stilll in the guild technically so we should be able to see each other online and send messages. Its just not active anymore, Im currently representing another guild that does the weekly challenges and stuff but its only a buttonclick to switch guilds anyway

Hmm so I dunno what to think about the Adventure Box after all. Its really cool and they did a good job making it look like youre in a 8bit NES world, the music is amazing and very reminiscent aswell. But the biggest problem is that its Guild Wars 2, so every world is a jump puzzle and I hate them because the movement just doesnt feel good in the game. It also doesnt help that I play a charr who fucking runs on all fours when not wielding a weapon so Ive missed so many ledges before because its so hard to tell where Im standing.

Id say its very tedious, me Mama and Deadly spent almost half an hour saturday night on the frog boss before we even knew what we were supposed to do. And lots of falling deaths. And a lot of bullshit deaths due to latency issues with projectiles.

Meh Ill still do it every day to get the currency. The 8bit weaponskins look really neat. It will probably come back in 2 months or so, the world map leads to believe there are still 4 major worlds left and the endboss still has that "princess".

Guild wars 2 is currently half price - at £17.49 for a subscription free MMO that's a pretty decent price and probably worth checking out.

They've made quite a few changes recently in how the servers work (no more overflow servers) and they're still producing more content - I think to try and balance out the servers so some areas aren't overpopulated (events) and some are empty.
