So, our 3 month trial of the BF3 server is nearly up - what are the community's thoughts on it? Should we keep it, or has no-one been playing on it? (and if not, why not?)

I personally have only used it once or twice. I tend to join Cruel, Curious and/or Brahms on whatever server they currently ploughing with heavy armour/ordinance.
I say let it go. The browser system makes it fairly easy to get on a server with your friends anyway so a "home" server is less of a necessity for this game. Especially with so few clan players.

Aye, it's like lefti says, the problem with the game is it's not very community oreiented. Plus although a lot of us were playing before, pretty much no one is playing now (though I feel a lot of people would LIKE to play, they just don't because they think no one else is.)

Its the same problem with the tf2 server but theres no easy way to fill it like quick play. BF doesn't enforce vanilla settings on their quick match so it sends you to whatever crazy server has room.

I'd love to play on the WDG server more, because finding a server with decent config is getting harder each day  However, like the others said, we normally play in a group of 2-4, which is just not enough to kickstart a server... |

They changed the minimum start-up back again I think?
So you can start with 2 players like you could before. They changed this to min 8-man start for registered servers with one of the patches and it was very unpopular.
As for playing, just haven't had the time

they reversed that ages ago berath. Its possible to 1 player start. They have promised a practice mode in the next patch that will be non-scoring until you get 8.

Prob let it go, It'd be great if it had a decent number of randoms on it 24/7 and clan members all had admin privileges to free up slots / balance players. As it is though, it's easier to just jump on someone elses server rather than try to get our empty one going (esp as we prefer to play in the same squad/team)

I'd say let it go. For me it's already boring playing TF2 with anything less than 6 people on each team and it's even worse with BF3. Unless you have a massive group of people dedicated to BF3 the server will just sit there empty. BF3 also doesn't really help with building community on a server, every server I liked and put into favourites always shows empty for me now, as if they just get filled randomly, then never again.

I sometimes wonder why that is. I've never found a good community in a battlefield game. TF2 and Cod4 were OK, but for some reason battlefield.. just always seem to be on random servers fighting random people. Which is a great shame because community servers have a great feel to them.

Is it not just because there is lack of communication on servers. in tf2 there are always people talking to eachother helping eachother out ect. but bf3 doesnt

I think it's the insane amount of people you need. TF2 you can enjoy at 6v6, on maps that scale fine for bigger populations. BF3 requires quite a lot more, at least at the popular gamemodes. Conquest large with 12 people? Boooring |
