I was considering semi-seriously suggesting some form of alcohol, like beer or vodka. Obviously everyone has different tastes, but beer has been brewed in roughly the same way for millenia now, with changes in small elements, like types of finings etc. Then the consideration comes in as to whether we're just judging the product itself or the technology used to produce it, with modern brewing methods being extremely advanced. Though personally of course I'd rather have a nice ale brewed with somewhat simpler methods than mass produced lager.
