Anyone had a shot at
Captain Forever before? I remember it getting some attention a while back which encouraged my playing it then. The freeware component is basically a top down space shooter with the unique selling point being that you build your ship out of the destroyed remnants of other ships. Initially you'll rock only puny green lasers/boosters/scaffolds, but as you work your way through the ranks of power the stakes get higher, equipment gets tougher and the rival ship designs get fancier, until you're duking it out with huge glowing white monstrosities in battles that generally involve every other ship in the sector fleeing from your big laser lined throbbing
spacecock unfortunately shaped ship. You have to deal with the momentum physics (getting all your right boosters smashed off will leave you spinning in circles while you do a frantic rebuild under fire. It's great.
Anyway, the reason I bring this up now is that he's slashed the support price to a measly $9. While this is entirely optional while playing Forever, paying it gets you access to Captain Successor, which is the base game with a lot more fancy parts to use in your build, and Captain Imposter, which has you surviving by stealing the designs of other ships- the longer your killstreak, the higher level kit your stolen design will be. You also get the in development campaign which GUYS YOU SHOULD PLAY THIS AND THEN BUY IT IT'S GOOD K.
