Ok...so you know the server crashes we've been having at map changes fairly regularly for the last however many maps...this is what happens:

CHANGE LEVEL: cp_steel
L 09/15/2011 - 22:08:35: [SM] Changed map to "cp_freight_final1"

And then it hangs/freezes. Freight was the map that won the vote. HURRRRRRR - wtf is it doing.

If anyone can find or knows of a solution to this - I would be *very* interesting in hearing it.

I'd have to suggest disabling the map vote for now... obviously a conflict / issue with Sourcemod. We've seen this issue before and if I recall correctly it was a bad sourcemod plugin.


Will take a while and the community will have to be patient.

Another suggestion - get rid of all the "nice to have" plugins for now, keeping the "core" important ones. See if we can improve stability that way. Add a few back one at a time until we can repeat the crash.

can you somehow force or trigger those hangs/freezes? It would be easier to find the problem without the need of other players.
Maybe you just set up a third server (completely new) and if it is running stable you just switch the startscripts
It seems you have only seven plugins, it isn’t that much, I doubt incompatibility is the problem

Are there, perchance, two plugins trying to change the map, which gets the server confused?

Is there any more info? Can you try to get a memory dump from the stuck server (google "ntsd attach process dump")?

The only correlation I've noticed is between the auto scrambler and the crashes, although that's going on two rounds of vague recollection (notably the infamous hydro selection).

Maybe not even a viable option, but downgrading a plugin in version might work ?

Well I looked on the sourcemod forums and searched elsewhere for this issue - but I couldn't find anything on it - if it was a sourcemod bug I would have thought someone else would have noticed it.

It's definitely not a TF2 bug as again, I'm sure it would have been fixed by now.

So I can only think that it's a plugin conflict or something like that, but I can't see anything obvious that would cause a problem. It's not like I have the nextmap or randomcycle plugins enabled.

It also doesn't do it every map change - so I don't know what is different some times over others.

I really need to find a solution as it's pretty much the only thing that causes the server to crash, and it won't automatically restart as it hangs/freezes, rather than closing (which would cause it to restart again automatically).

try to run the server with only the "basic" sm modders plugins and leave the "custom"
as you said, if it would be a sm problem they probably would have fixed it by now
then I would just add the plugins one by one

btw skip "TF2 Permanent Critvote" and deactivate it like for ever

No - the problem has existed for a lot longer than that. Many many months.

The changes to advertisements, the crit vote plugin and nominate etc. all came way after that.

Agree, let's undo the last set of plugin changes and see if stability improves.

Sam, as a side note, when server crashes and I go onto the dedi, I see a huge spike in CPU activity. After server restarts, utilisation much lower again.

I agree with plugin conflict, let's disable the newly added ones for now. We may have to find a replacement or more basic crit vote adding.

But the plugins were added after the crashes started, so it can't be caused by them?
