Transport Tycoon Deluxe is free (abandon-ware, iirc) and there is a free version compatible with Vista/7 with some extra features that the original game didn't have - plus it has customisable texture packs as well. Smiley

Theme Hospital is of a similar sort of thing as well, but I can't think of what the project was called. Undecided

I know Wikipedia do a list of freeware games (both freeware and abandonware games), it maybe worth looking there as strategy games tend to go free more commonly than other genres, imo.

I thought there was some indie companies like Paradox still making games like this? I don't really pay much attention though because I don't have the whatever is required for this kind of thing.

That but I rather prefer the EA FIFA manager series (except for the latest one which sucked ass). Not as deep maybe as the Football Manager games, but theyre much nicer if you just wanna play it for fun (which I want).

As you can see most of those are yearly releases, and the Bus driver thingy has like a dozen similar games. I can also remember a game where you had to manage public toilets, but can't find it anymore...

I think I'd like to play that. The reduction of the number of public toilets in our towns and cities is one of the markers of the inexorable decline of our Western civilisation.

Anyone remember Lula, the Sexy Empire?  Sex and a sim game should of been awesome.  It wasn't.

There was also Populous, the Beginning, that was brilliant.  Open Transport Tycoon is still very playable

Edit:  What about the biggie, Civilization, that at least is still going strong and there is also the Rollercoaster Tycoon series
