So who remembers this? http://www.wdgclan.co.uk/index.php?topic=4229.0The Un-finished project thread. More importantly, the TF2 announcer. I've been toying with this over and over in my mind now for quite some time. I have 175 files recorded sitting on my hard drive. In fact I still think the link to the soundboard site is valid. But they are the wrong sample rate. Also they suffer the "POP" effect from "B" "P" and "S". So I did try adjusting the sample rate and adding some echo effects, but it was crap. I thought recording in a high sample rate would mean that I had a good quality recording, that when it was dropped down would be ok. But even with a +12Db, the sound was poor and too quiet in comparison to the original files. But recently I learnt that Maplins do a 6" pop shield for £9.99. And a great Aunt has given me some cash for getting rid the porn hijacker from her PC. So as I'm feeling creative again, I figured why not simply re-record all the files into the correct format. And then just add the echo effect. So to save myself further heart ache, can I just confirm these figures. Is it 22050 MONO or is it 44100 MONO Also is this ok for echo effect? Time delay = 0.1 Delay factor = 0.25 Keep grinning

You can make a decent enough pop shield out of a pair of tights and a coat hanger, all it needs to do is stop the puff of air from the plosives hitting the membrane in the mic which the ol' tights and coat hanger do perfectly.

Hey, is that changing the standard voices on the server?
These sort of things are only changed client side, but the server white list can be tweaked so that they can be used on our server.

Having a little brows on the web, it would seem that there are two common camps as regards sample rate. 22050mhz, MONO, 32-Bit But more commonly... 44100mhz, MONO, 32-Bit I think what I will try and do is record the countdowns in 44100mhz and test. If it plays back ok, then happy days. The rest of the files can then be recorded and have an echo effect added. It looks like sticking as close to the original file settings should be the key. So recording in a "WAV" format won't be a problem. If this all works, then in theory all that will need to be done is to publish two versions. In one corner there will be a zipped folder that will already contain the file structure for you to simple unzip the files to the correct location. And in the other corner the files will be individually listed for you to cherry pick which ones you want. At least that's the plan Day off soon. YAY! EDIT. Ok, just had a little tinker with the "Creative Sound Recorder" software. And for a MONO recording at 44.100Khz, the default setting in 16-Bit. With a maximum of 24-bit. So this could be a little more fiddly that I thought I think I'll stick the the default 16-Bit for now.

Hooray! It's a day off. So am I being sensible and doing domestic chores? Nope So, initial tests on just the recording front seem to indicate good things. I've had to increase the levels a bit. Recording in MONO and the pop shield do drop the output a bit. But using the phrase "poopy balls" does show the shield to be working. And the echo effect setting work ok. So sticking with the simple plan, I'll re-record the countdowns for round start and end. I'll then give them a go on a local bot game. If it works, then I will more than likely do a happy dance. Then I'll have to rember how to upload them. I think I used Google. Fingers crossed.
