Id say its "ok". I did like the very mature setting and whatnot, but I got really frustrated at the interrogation stuff. Nomatter how hard I tried to listen for clues or try to read their faces, at around mission 4 or 5 (when the game stops holding your hand) it turned into a guessing game for me, which made the game incredibly boring, so like Tommy, I havent finished it and Im pretty sure, Im not the only one that has somuch problems with detecting lies and stuff.

For 9 quid its still worth checking out, I guess. But I was pretty disappointed and frustrated by this game.

well i got this in the mega cheap sale. Am enjoying it a lot. I had started to lose faith in rockstar after gta4 and the endless take your buddy on man date minigames but this has me hopeful.

I had difficulties with lies initially but I redid the first two traffic cases and it got easier. Only just got promoted to homicide so i'm by no means at the hard parts yet but in the early parts gaze as lots of you have mentioned is important but so is lip pursing and other general fidgeting. I got 4 or 5 stars on all the rest of my traffic cases first time. One thing that tripped me up a fair bit at first though is a lot of times the game just wants you to threaten people without evidence. One time I even had evidence that a woman had used a fake address on her vehicle registration but the game decided that didn't mean anything when I challenged her lie about it being a legit registration it wanted me to make vague threats again. Its a bit annoying to have to replay cases but its worth it to help you get to grips with everything before you start getting the harder stuff. The game still trips me up with investigation order and timed events and stuff but eh its nearly impossible to get a perfect case score in one, I always fluff a single interview question or miss a single clue because of weird procedure stuff.

I find this way more compelling and playable than gtas mindlessness. I hope that LA Noire 2 fine tunes its mechanics a bit without dumbing down (interviews need expanding with do overs on questions, real detectives don't get one shot at questions they like to ask them many times and it seems this is the most needlessly frustrating part of the game, acing an interview should save you time, but you should get scored on getting all the information even if it took you a lot longer. evidence gathering has it right, you can choose the time you devote to the task there and examine pointless shit but what counts is you spent the time looking and found all the clues). And man I had forgotten how much gta 4 engine sucks balls even with dx11 support, I hope GTA5 gets a serious engine investment.

yeah. but published by rockstar and using the gta engine? And team bondi imploded, LA Noire is now owned solely by rockstar who presumably are making the sequel with one of their studios.

Does everyone else have the dlc? Just realised my 2 of my 5 traffic cases were dlc, they are done really well and better than the original cases I think. The case format really suits dlc and I didn't even notice they were additions they slotted in so well. I think having the 5 on traffic has probably further helped me learn the mechanics before getting thrown at homicide.

Are you using the 60FPS mod? If you are it makes cars handle worse.

no i'm just lagging my pc with too many chrome windows, either the driving experience tends to pulsate where the entire game slows down and speeds up, but I can still just about cope with that. Or right now I have the gfx a bit lower and it just has horrendous draw in where buildings extremely close to me will draw in pixel by pixel at close range. Its not too bad and it doesn't give me problems in the handful of car chases, it just ruins my immersion a bit to the point I tend to have my partner drive or just drive way too fast so I can't watch all the horrendous draw-ins.

I finished the game last night. The DLC is actually way worse than I realised because 3 cases were simply cut content to make preorder bonuses bleh, essentially gimping traffic and vice. 2 of the largest cases were done after release probably as cases that weren't finished in time for the game but thats fine.

I was wondering why I never got to play burglary. Also I don't understand why the dlc was not just burglary and bunco? Apparently they finished the writing, art, and most of the other assets they just needed to do mocap and voice?

The think I think this game does really well is characterization. I loved or hated most of the characters by the end of the game. The story was generally good but can get a little jumbled, I liked the ending but the final case didn't really make much sense.

I'd also totally given up on playing the interview guessing game, its not that I couldn't do it I would still get my questions right most of the time (even mob bosses and criminal masterminds in this game are bad liars with the same kindof gaze/lip pursing/jaw tension/fidgeting tells) but if I got one wrong it was faster to reload the game to preserve a 5 star rating than play the whole case again later. Which is the main reason the whole mechanic blows, theres no logic in making questions one shot deals and punishing players so completely in the score, it just undermines my motivation for playing the interviews instead of cheating them. A "from the top" mechanic might help, just let you start the interview over and rile your interviewee up a bit, where the main cost of messing up questions is having to ask them again if you can be bothered.

I also felt a lot of the clues and stuff didn't get used ever, I would have appreciated like a case report writing thing where you have to spend a minute or two selecting options for what happened and kinda put the whole thing together.
