I don't think the Lib Dems will be getting very many votes for a while. They finally get some power and they use it to make all their voters displeased.

Indeed, and I must admit I was very disappointed as a Lib Dem voter. Though I must admit, I don't think it's fair to be full on "FUUUUU YOU BROKE YOUR PROMISES!". Unfortunately having a coalition between essentially a left wing and right wing party, where the right wing has more authority so to speak, results in the the policies the lib dems wanted being over shadowed. I have no doubt that for example the abolition of student tuition fees is what the lib dems wanted and had they been in power, would have happened. However being forced into being an almost side partner to the conservatives who wanted to raise tuition fees, was always gonna go one way or the other, sadly it went the douchebags way My point being, I haven't lost faith in the Lib Dems, and if we successfully change to AV, I would still vote for them

tbh... the whole AV vote thing isn't really that important right now (to me) in the grand scheme of things. We've bigger fish to fry with student fees, unemployment, economy and foreign wars. Not to mention poverty and neglect.

I didn't waste my vote yesterday though, I try to use it as I do think we're lucky to have a vote here. I just think of all those poor bastards in countries where a vote is a dream!

I had done enough to make an informed choice and still couldn't make up my mind. The question was deliberately written that way to split the anti-fptp vote. Many anti-fptp groups were voting no to AV.

I'm sure all those poor bastards will be getting PR though Junta we are one of a handful of countries with an out-dated democracy that breeds a two part system of lazy politicians and swing politics. I think sadly your view is typical of the older generation and i don't really blame you but changing the voting system is very important to the younger generation. I feel completely unrepresented in parliament at the moment even now with lib dems supposedly in power and couldn't be bothered to vote yesterday. I'd happily let the tories get away with whatever raping and pillaging they want to do this parliamentary term if they just bring in electoral reform, if they dont i'm going to be pissed. (probably should have voted yes whoops).

I'm sort of in the disco camp, I think fptp is a terrible system but straight AV is not what I'd prefer either. I voted for AV but don't hold out much hope.

As expected, this is already being spun as "a rejection of any political reform" by members of the No campaign. So PR isn't even going to have a chance.

I can almost admire the way the deftness with which the "No" group have pulled this off - spreading FUD and outright lies about AV, dangling it as an opportunity to "punish" Nick Clegg for not being able to prevent the Tuition Fees change, and hinting that change to AV would prevent change to an even fairer system whilst having no intention of allowing that.

Good demonstration of the flaws of democracy though, we should probably just pack the whole thing in since people are so easily manipulated into voting against their own interests. Build a benevolent AI to run things and burn all the politicians for fuel.

Agree with much said here. AV is far from my ideal but a no vote is obviously being construed as a vote against reform, hence voting Yes to AV with the hope of it being a stepping stone to something more.

Back in 1917 the house of commons tried 5 times to give us PR in the form of STV for a third of constituencies, and AV for the rest, but were cockblocked by the house of Lords. Unfortunately now that although the Lords have been neutered somewhat our modern two party system is too corrupt to give up the disproportionate power that FPTP gives them.

Personally I think the combative, point scoring nature of our, basically, two party system has totally held us back.

Decisions and policy making seem to be based more on point scoring and doing the opposite to what the other side wants/believes/has done is more important than actually doing what is best or most appropriate.
