AMD's bulldozer chips are out next month if you want to wait. Should be better performance than Sandybridge, and cheaper.

I hope so, but not holding my breath. The industry does need a competitive AMD product and I do like the look of the new AMD chips / architecture.

That said, the quality of previous AMD chips has been poorer at first launch (i.e. lots of the early X2 chips had flaws and the original Phenom ran hot and had a bug that resulted in specific features being disabled and crippled performance).

Lets hope AMD get it right this time!

Yeah, miss having an AMD box, First PC I built myself was a K6-2 500 (With a Geforce 2 MX - Represent!), went on to an Athlon XP 1700 and then a XP 2500+ Barton. Since the Conroe era though Intel has just been far too tempting (have an XP 3800+ dual core in my server though, was crazy good value at the time, I picked up a nice second hand nforce2 Mobo (with dual LAN, SLI, 10 SATA2 ports etc), Chip and 2GB RAM for under £100)

And a little reminder. If you need to up the voltage when over clocking, its not worth it. +0.1V equals in a much hight amperage and thus a lot more heat and a higher power bill.... So think twice about when going for the extra few hundred MHz...

Worst advice to give Brahms ever. He's already been waiting months and months for next thing in the 'price/performance curve'.

Just buy it. You've got a well specced out machine there so just bite the bullet and hit checkout. You won't be disappointed and whatever you buy will be so much better than what you're using at the moment. You can spend months/years waiting and it probably won't make any difference. The processor I have in mine is over 2 years old and still a top performer and I expect it to last for a while yet (probably until something blows up rather than an upgrade) and I would expect that the system you have spec'd out will be the same.

My cheap-ass viewpoint: Wait until as long as you can tolerate not upgrading, then buy something with a sensible price/performance value. It takes about 2 years for any hardware improvement you'd really notice to appear, 3 years if you bought high-end last time. The month-to-month stuff is mostly for the real enthusiasts. IMO over-clocking, motherboard variances, etc is 95% price discrimination and marketing and can be safely ignored. If you're happy with what you have, wait : if not, and it's more than a couple of years old, go for it.

I figured that even if Bulldozer isn't leagues ahead, the Intel chips will drop due to competition, plus AMD motherboards are usually half the price. Also there will be loads of rich enthusiasts flogging their old systems off cheap.
No harm in waiting a few weeks to possibly save £50-£100

There's no shortage of socket 1155 motherboards. Probably just as well you didn't get your first choice, if it's been scrapped this soon there was likely something wrong with it.

Looks ok to me, Beast of a cooler on it, but for the same price I'd probably get a Thermalright Silver Arrow.
Should be able to get close to 5Ghz if you want.

I'd also go for 8GB of CL9 rather than 4GB of CL8 RAM. An SSD wouldn't go amiss either as an OS drive. 60GB Vertex 2e for £80 isn't bad.
