As per the title, you can probably guess that the new Steam Guard feature is causing me issues. Allow me to explain:

1) I have a desktop and a laptop computer with steam installed.

2) The desktop works just fine.

3) The laptop needs constant "re-authorisation" according to steam, which involves me checking my e-mail for a steam generated message and typing a code into steam to "unlock" my laptop for the purpose of using my own steam account.

4) I've unlocked my laptop a couple of times now, which is a drag to say the least.

5) Now, steam is prompting me for a code again on my laptop, and the one sent via e-mail does not work (steam just complains that the number is not right).

Getting fed up with this BS, so am disabling the guard. I mean seriously Valve.. WTF.... do I have to unlock the same computer constantly? Why are you supplying a code that don't work?

Tbh, I think it's primarily aimed just for people who use the same PC each time they log in and a best just for the occasional log in from elsewhere, not for if you switch back and forth

It certainly needs some more time spent fixing the bugs before it's genuinely useful.

On a similiar note who the fuck implemented this new browser authorization? I have 2 STEAMs on my PC, one on my normal harddrive for all Valve Games and one on my external HDD for everything else (because the Source engine has weird lags when running from my external for some reason) and whenever I switch between those two its giving me issues when browsing through steam in the overlay and client, it always sends an activation code to my email that I have to enter. BS!

It certainly needs some more time spent fixing the bugs before it's genuinely useful.

Activating on two PCs should work, that's my current setup.

I only had a problem when the laptop wasn't opted in to the steam client beta, but since it's out of beta now, this can't be the issue.

I can't even figure out how to activate it. Must be missing something obvious because the instructions are no help.  These are the instructions:

Update Steam
Steam should automatically update itself but you can force it to update by clicking "Check for Steam Client Updates"
Be sure your contact email address is verified with Steam.
You must verify your contact email address with Steam. You can check whether your email address is already verified by visiting Steam Account Settings. A verified address will be marked as "Verified." To verify your email address, follow these instructions.
Restart Steam
 
That's it! With Steam Guard enabled, you will be asked to enter the special access code sent to your email address each time you login to Steam from an unrecognized computer.

So I updated Steam, made sure my email address was validated, and restarted steam, which covers all the instructions - but I can't find any option to opt in to steam guard. It must be obvious since everyone else managed it despite the lame instructions.

I found steam guard ENABLED without my say so. It suddenly was there after a recent update.

To find it:

Steam menu -> Settings

Select "manage steam guard account security"

Yep. It's activated by default and the first PC is automatically authenticated, so if you only use one PC you see nothing.

In the steam settings (Account) you should have a security status.

i have a similar thing for facebook, although it just spams me emails when a machine is used rather than lock stuff down, but with steam i'd rather they lock it down. Its a good feature although needs implementing better and its still shitty compared to what blizzard offer.
