So far this game looks so sick and It's a day 1 buy I reckon. Thoughts? The first Shogun (and total war) was one of my most favourite games ever so a new updated version can't go wrong right!?

Funnily enough, Shogun is the only Total War I haven't played, but I played all the others to death. Already pre-ordered from Zavvi, although without the coupon I used it's cheaper from Gameseek.

I'm with u on that Beau. Shogun was the game that got me into the whole Total War series. It a definate yes for me too. Though not sure when......

I'm in the same boat as Chug, Medieval was the first one of the series I played. As much as I love the series, I'm not sure about a day 1 buy just yet. I only just got around to playing Empire recently, and knowing CA the initial release will be plagued with bugs.

shogun was great fun and i really got into all the releases since except empire which was pants.

hopefully it should be just as good as their older games

I liked Empire, but let's be honest guys it was no Rome/Shogun.

I never thought gunpowder units would be much fun in these games because the AI is not exactly phenomenal and struggles to understand the ridiculous advantage you get from defending. This turned multi player into one of the most boring I've played.

With mostly melee units you can actually try cool stuff and considering how we'll have shinobi and ninjas and shit all up in this bitch we're looking at just a more fun game imo. Plus, we get rowboats instead of these BULLSHIT naval battles ;P.

My first clan leader will be named kawaii-lolita-otaku-chansamarama

They should never of done Empire, the land battles were rubbish.  I did love the sea battles though, they probably would of made a decent (pirate based) game on their own.

Medieval 2 was the best so far in my opinion

Shogun 2 should be brilliant.

My favourite is still Rome, even though it was massively unbalanced. I just liked the time period. I didn't like Medieval II all that much, imo they really ballsed up the missile units and cavalry, the two most important parts of medieval warfare.

I played Rome the most, first as the Julii and then as the Greeks. Holding a city from 2000 Gauls with 2 units of basic hoplites is one of my favourite badass moments in any game.

Medieval 2 Kingdoms was more interesting that Medieval 2 itself, especially the Americas campaign. My main run as the Apache was a great exercise in low tech swarming, until my guys got shot enough and charged enough that they worked out how to use guns and horses, at which point I made a whole army of gunpowder cavalry and never lost a battle again, ever.
