stingers are fine and needed. I know 2142 had them and i think bf2? And the important thing about them is it takes time and harassment to kill aircraft. Ground rpgs are too spammy and aerial vehicles seem to lack lethality and tanks lack durability.
I've not been killed by a jet once and only by very good helicopters and even then switching onto my gunner seat can usually down them. It just ground rpg spam spam spam taking me down and topping the scores all the time.

Solved the screen maximising thing, it's Teamviewers fault if anyone else gets the same issue. Had a good lot of lag-free games this avo, fun stuff.

Did you have an active connection or was it enough to have it ready in the background?

just having the service running in the background was enough, never been a problem in any other games. PITA since i use teamviewer quite a lot and will likely forget to manually start it up again.

Do vehicle perks combine between passenger and driver yet?

i dont think so, and meh tank driving has gotten a lot easier. I realised the specs head towards an anti-infantry extreme. The last 3, thermal optics, reactive armour, and shotgun shells are pure infantry wreckers. I guess maybe theres more vehicle focused maps you are supposed to start on but why not space them out a bit better? The starting perks are almost all useless apart from coaxial lmg and maintenance.

to avoid filling the shoutbox even further. What BF3 has currently lost is that sense of dread you had in 2142 when a war walker stomped into your point. You knew you could either hide or fight it but fighting was hard. If you didn't change position after firing your rpg it would find you and kill you. You had to think about the fight and keep moving. A desperate run to the tow launcher was a risky move but often a vehicle killer. In BF3 its way too easy to prone behind some rock and just spam, and the vehicle won't even know where your shots are coming from (hit indicators suck), theres no tactics for taking down a vehicle you just popup and spam. I've just about adapted my playstyle to it but theres no more interesting duels with engineers, generally I have to just retreat and hope they expose themselves. Infantry just have too many advantages now, indestructible cover, health regeneration, tank getting disabled and unable to move and losing health at less than 50% health, and no shell splash. Infantry needed buffs versus vehicles yes, but all of that is too much. One or two need tweaking back to favour vehicles. Also the beta ended

if you are an infantry whore you will probably love most of the improvements, once its all working its much improved.
If you liked jets/choppers/tanks/apcs/AA tanks you'll be slightly disappointed, but only slightly, some slight balancing to the disable mechanic is all thats needed and fingers crossed they do it infantry have enough crippling advantages now. Unless you like BF2 jets people keep raging about the new ones but eh. Jeeps on the other hand are pretty buff now, useful and not complete deathtraps.

how are the passenger choppers? I remember completely destroying a map with a black hawk and two good gunners.

I think once the infra-red vision (as seen in one of the trailers) is unlocked the balance of power will shift back to the tanks - much harder to hide in bushes etc.

i had thermals, it helps a little, but its hardly xray vision, if anything it encourages the engis to make super sure they are behind cover i can't blow up or see them poking out on thermals. Theres a definite trend in the perks though that basically all the anti-infantry stuff is the hardest to unlock.
