10 o'clock live is great, but I find myself getting angry once every 10 minutes during interviews/discussions when the presenters get told to wind it up so they can move on. It was bad in the first week, but this week both the interviews and the round table discussion were getting really interesting when the order from above came to finish up. Also I don't understand why Lauren Laverne is even there, since she's fairly consistently useless.

Hopefully the format will improve as the series goes on.

Totally, only seen the first ep so far but it all just feels a bit rushed - The discussions are just long enough for the comedian to do his skit and then ending. They are also going along with public sentiment too much rather than having a proper debate.
i.e: On the education debate what the crux comes down to is whether people who don't go to university should pay for people who do go and then get well paid jobs.
On the Banking Bonuses debate Jimmy Carr touched on the real issue at the end of the episode long after the debate part when he mentioned Footballers. At the end of the day the bankers pay is determined by supply/demand of the labour market. Banks have their own shareholders to answer to - If they could get talented people to work for them without big paychecks, bonuses and golden parachute contracts, they would.

Fuck yes. My favorite book series, and it looks like it's being done properly. I like that GRRM has had such heavy involvement, but I dislike that it's distracting him from finishing off book 5 ... Been waiting 10 fucking years for the next Tyrion chapter :/

TV series wise, If you haven't seen 'The Wire' you really really should fix that. 'Dexter', 'True Blood', 'Breaking Bad', the new 'Battlestar Galactica' are other favourites of mine.
'The Shield' is a good watch too.
Other than those there is a long list of stuff I regularly Watch, 'House', 'The Big Bang Theory', 'How I met your Mother','Californication', 'It's always Sunny in Philadelphia', 'The Mentalist', 'Psych', 'Bones'.

My TV directory is around 3TB, got loads of stuff on there.

Bored to Death, Eastbound&Down both hilarious series in my opinion.
The first two Episodes of Boardwalk Empire that I have seen are pretty good too.

My all time favourite in comedy series is by far It's always sunny in Philadelphia. Just brilliant.

Like Zarf said, the Wire is really, really good. I only managed to watch the first season thus far and How I met your mother is always worth the watch.

Most of those series do not run on German tv and I think it's okay that way, because they would have poor voice dubbing/synchro and wouldn't do justice to the originals.

My older brother is obsessed with that show for many years now. I will start with that soon aswell.

Currently not watching that much TV stuff. The last series Ive been watching was Eastbound & Down. Fucking funny as hell, I cant wait for season 3.

Other than that Ive had a complete rerun of Scrubs a few months ago, great show, but avoid the latest season (aka "Med School"), its just a huge disappointment after that great ACTUAL ending.

And I agree with Ringel, fuck german dubs.

George RR Martin was originally a screen writer (he wrote many episodes of The Twilight Zone) so I'm expecting good things.

Just wish he'd finished the damn series before he started on the screenplay

I'm into series 3 of Dexter, glad to see that the series is no longer following the books (which started off excellently but derailed massively). PLUS... there is the whole "would you like to shag Deborah" debate that Claws and I have going on

As for American comedy, some of it starts well (i.e. Scrubs) then the "silly humour" creeps in and makes the series ridiculous to watch! So for that reason I don't watch some of the stuff that Zarf mentions. Strangely, Two and a half men can be reasonable watching if nothing else is on.

Incidentially me and Lully are currently rewatching Two and a half men, currently in the beginning of Season 5 and it is fun, but only because I forgot all those episodes, I think.

I might make a big round up on shows we are watching/were watching since I haven't seen some of them mentioned so far and some of them were really good.

My comments on scrubs are sadly true... the first two series were excellent, amusing and compelling. Then, as with lots of things, they put more focus on JD's daydreams which got far too stupid and silly to be funny. They also had to fit in an army of guest stars and didn't know how to script for them (wow... Heather Locklear is still niiiice).

Still, The Tod is a highly funny character throughout.

I've watched the entirety of scrubs, even that new series about the interns and quite enjoyed the whole thing, though I see what you're saying. My opinion was by the very end it because a fan show that was written on forums by people bitching.

But I was implying that you were trolling about 2 and a half men.

Well Charlie Sheen can't act for shit, but I enjoy the guy who plays Alan a lot. Sure, the jokes are a bit samey, because the premise is kinda narrow, but I still enjoy that show. I think best characters on the show are the housekeeper Berta, the woman psychiatrist (whatever her name is) and Alan.

From the shows that I was about to recommend:

For funnies it would be Arrested Development. It started very slow I thought, but the team behind it got warm eventually and the humour on it is very ranged. From silly (Gob) to somewhat subtle (forgot what the nieces name was). Basically nearly every characted on the show caters to a specific brand of humour and there is also usually the main story arc in every episode. From the currently running shows I think Modern Family comes closest to Arrested Developement, though I don't think they are at their best yet. Arrested Developement unfortunately was cancelled, but the story is wrapped up nicely.

For action I would definately recommend The Unit. It's about a (fictive?) special unit and their assignments over the course of several years. Great actors, many familiar faces and even if every episode is usually self contained, often there is an arc over several episodes through character development. Also I found the show somewhat realistic and even while it's leaning towards "America FUCK YEAH" kind of shows, it's also critical of war and acting outside of the law. Another side of the show is the privat lifes of the wives of the men in the unit which while isn't as dangerous nowhere near boring. This show is also finished by now, but I enjoyed it very much.
