Bought one of these, not bad but not the huge leap I was hoping for in regard to my old ATI 4890.
Tf2 seems no better than before. Can anyone else with a 460 advise me on their Tf2 settings?

In other games, like bfbc2, I have seen more power. L4d2 also seems better.

Pros of the 460:
Small card, superb size easily fit into most cases
Astonishingly cool, idled at 20, goes to 40  under load
Dx 11

Cons:
Not much change over my old 4890 at 1920x1080.

TF2 is getting pretty aged now - if you ran it on full settings before then it'll still run on full settings now. I'd probably recommend using newer games to check the performance etc.

I think that the graphics card performance curve has levelled off quite a lot in the last year or so - the manufacturers seem to be going more towards new features rather than increasing raw performance.

I've upgraded both my CPU and graphics card recently and haven't noticed a change in performance from TF2 (without FPS config, obviously ). The only thing I have noticed is a more constant FPS (usually doesn't drop below 80 without a config, which is what I used to get when I ran it on my laptop back in the day...)

Also, your cards load temp is my cards idle temp .

Interesting. I'm plannning on getting one of these in a couple months. I suppose your old card was already quite a beast though, J, and I think I remember hearing that tortress was relatively CPU limited.

I have a 5830 for sale?  Its only a 5670 mate.  Woah, don't knock the 460s, yeh knock the 768mb version as they're bloody awful.

Check out the benchmarks of 460 gtx 1gb in SLI, outperforms a 570 gtx!!

A new graphics card is nearly as disappointing as a new cpu, your still playing the same crap just with extra AA.

I went from a 5770 to a 6950/70 unlocked thingy and I can't really tell the difference.

I get random drops in frame rate, down from a silky smooth 120/130... to 30-50. Doesn't last long but really f*cks my gameplay since I never noticed it with the 4890.

Not happy with the NVidia just now tbh. Despite how neat and small the f*cker is and how cool it runs. Just TF2 though.. other games seem more than happy.

EDIT: Tried the 4890 again, Tf2 running well. 170/180 with occasional drops down to 70/80 when screen gets busy. Nothing like the drops I saw with the 460 tbh, they were more frequent.

Are you sure you weren't getting similar minimum framerate dips on the Radeon?  It's not exactly a stressful game. Could be another component at fault, like a CPU usage spike from another process. I also seem to recall you using a budget SSD, Are you running TF2 from the SSD?

The ATI is seeing drops, but *nowhere* near as bad as the 460.

TF2 is being run from a HDD. The SSD is actually running extremely well for a budget board.

Have tried *both* the 460 and the 4890 tonight with same graphics settings. The 460 seems much slower to me and this does indeed seem extremely odd given the rave reviews that the 460 has had. Most odd.

As for processes, I've nothing significant running / chewing up CPU time. If I had, I'm sure that I'd have seen the same behaviour on the 4890, but I'm not. The drop in FPS (when using the 4890) seems associated with heavy action in TF2, and I dont tend to notice it because I drop to about 70 fps, which I dont think interferes with my play.

When using the 460, the drops in FPS are pronounced and can happen away from "the action" when there is nothing much happening graphically. Again, the drop seems more pronounced and quicker, hitting 40fps from around 120/140 fps.

TLDR:
I ask myself why it is that the 460 has a lower max frame rate for TF2, and drops down to much lower FPS and much more often than the 4890.

Driver issue maybe? I've downloaded the latest ones!

I had massive driver issues switching from nVidia to ATI, nothing short of a nuke and reinstall would help.

I think my next card upgrade is going to be back to the nVidia side though, my 8800GTX was rock solid, but I'm getting display driver crashes every few days on my 5850, as well as occasional problems in Dragon Age.
Oh, I can't run certain games with the mumble overlay enabled either.

You see - I havn't had any issues like that with mine. Mumble overlay works fine in all games and apart from the fact the card runs quite hot I've hardly had any problems with it - even when running 3 monitors.
