I just don't see the point in wasting time (wait, that HAS something to do with life, isn't it?) on something that you can't win.
Wasting time on something that you can win is another thingy. I just like a goal in my games, not just "come here daily and click a bunch until you all die" objective. I'll stick to the game for now, but it is a huge disappointment in the game mechanics for me.
All I'm saying is I'd rather have something, that can be beat if you'd work really well as a team. Like being able to actually clean the town surroundings and win the game. It wouldn't be easy and it sure doesn't have to be easy, I just want it to be possible. Would be a much bigger incentive for me to play the game as opposed to "hey, you already lost, but you have to 'play' the game for a couple of days anyway".

I agree with Power that I would find the concept of the game more appealing if it had a win condition. A ridiculously difficult win condition is fine, like, say, survive 28 days. Improbable but not impossible. My opinion is worth somewhat less as I have not tried the game but that's my two cents regardless.

A bit OT, but I understand the criticism ; I have the same problem with L4D2's survivor mode. I don't like things where I'm set up to fail from the beginning, and the question is only how long I can last.

Hm, a hole in the argument perhaps. There is a goal of sorts in Survivor mode to reach the time necessary for a gold medal. Though of course the game doesn't end after that and you do fail afterwards. Suppose it's my achievement based mentality; when I have the gold medal, that's the stage "won" for me.

There's always the leaderboards to aim for- a well run town has a chance at making their mark. There are also 'achievements' in the form of titles, so what you do during your time there does make a difference. I really don't have an issue with the lack of win condition- it's far too dependent on planning and town coordination to be a 'click counter' game.
My main issue with the game so far has been how bad the early game attrition is- you'll always lose 4-5 people on the first night to people who log in once and forget to get back inside, and the third day usually brings another wave of dehydration deaths from those who don't even bother going outside before forgetting about the game. Hopefully this is something that'll be helped by the 100+ point towns, since you've got to be fairly serious about the game to get that far.
J, I've got a coalition space spare if you want in? At least with our team of awesome we've got a decent core if everyone else is too lazy to log in.

My only comment regarding a "game that you cannot win" is that it IS actually advertised as "you will die" ... just a matter of time and it's the time you last that counts (like sex mate

Sounds fine to me.
As for getting everyone in the same town, it should be fine as long as the coalition leaders have Hero mode and the town is fairly empty. Just post the town name in here and let everyone join it?

I think you can leave the town (i.e. go to the town gates and hit 'leave town') and then you count as being 'outside' and will die when the zombies come.
Failing that - find some poison, drugs, alcohol etc. to get more AP. Other options include griefing your town like taking all the important stuff from the bank etc.
