Dodgy; I think we can fully agree at least it is partially a deconstruction; however I am on the side that it is much more fan-pandering in all the ways a deconstruction needn't be to prove it's point as I said in my other post. It isn't satire when you have panty shots every episode, and fan pandering to breasts etc. etc. - do I need to go find screenshots to prove this? It goes well beyond any kind of parody/satire/deconstruction this way.

Simple effective deconstruction can happen in essentially a few episodes and not a full drawn series - especially if it is a single point to make - see Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan for one which I think pulls it off better (in that case, a high school setting where a "supernatural magical girl" appears). I'd go watch that, it's only 4 episodes long in any case, then compare the effectiveness - yes it uses more humour, but School Days wasn't above putting in some ridiculous humour in the most bizarre places too.

One more thing to note - the "pregnant" one turns out to be not pregnant (or at least you can probably assume so from the other crazy girls ramblings), meaning she really was "crazy", even if it appears at first that you should feel sorry for her (as I did when I watched it). Notably "why don't more go crazy" applies a lot to the girls showing the taped videos of sexual encounters for instance; none of them went off the handle, heh. But it is besides the point in any case. They did it to have violence at the end rather then some other resolution such as simple abandonment, more complex suicide, involving adults, or making rational decisions

Possibly it's mainly the idiot plot (read: only reason the plot works is because they are all idiots and misunderstand each other) that got me as it being just so cruel to women - they would just "go crazy" because it was traumatic to be dumped or ignored or whatever. If the lead character was even more abusive it might make more sense, but only a little, they still go through it acting pretty stupidly.

Just realised I haven't watched anything new in AAAGES, Winter season looks to be slim pickings - will give Madoka Magica and Hourou Musuko a go, since they were good enough to get their own threads on ADTRW but I don't have very high hopes (One's a magical Girl anime, the other is some kind of transgender thing).

Watched the first eps of both, won't bother with any more. Madoka Magica is a mix of Acid and boring, whereas Hourou Musuko is far too serious. Neither have any comedy.

I'm don't really want to write another wall-o-text, and this is my last post on School Days, I swear. You have a point with the panty shots, etc. I don't find them as offensive as I would if the show was not already primarily about sex, but they don't add much to the deconstruction, even if they are pretty prevalent in the genre being satirized.

It's true that the show could have taken around 4 episodes to make its point, but there would have had to be a much sharper dichotomy of tone in that case, ruining the thing that I liked most about the show (the pacing).

I wouldn't put too much stock in what Kotonoha says at the end about Sekai not being pregnant. She was a crazy person with an obvious emotion bias against believing that Sekai was actually pregnant. That and because the pregnancy was less than two months along, the fetus would have been almost impossible to see in the circumstances anyway (<1cm in length). But it doesn't really matter if she was pregnant or not anyway, the important part was that she believed she was. And her just being mistaken on this point I don't think is grounds to call her crazy. She missed her period and was having morning sickness, it doesn't seem like too much of a leap of logic to me to think she was pregnant.

Given that she thought she was pregnant , the rest of her actions are pretty understandable. The show could have ended non-violently, sure, but it wouldn't have had the same impact. The point it was trying to make (that harem situations like this would generally end badly in real life) wouldn't have been as strong imo.

I think overall, the main reason you don't like it and I do is because you've watched a lot more anime than I have. The clichés annoy you more than they do me, and you're less impressed at the stuff it does right because you've seen other shows do it better. I've no doubt that my opinion of the show with change once I've seen more stuff, but for now those are my thoughts.

One more thing Dodgy; the ending was one of many violent and off the cuff stupid endings as you get in harem games anyway. School Days the game is known for that; although it isn't it's primary feature of course. Read it up on wikipedia; those who had played the games likely knew what was going to happen. Those endings are more just failing at the game; perhaps half-interesting but if you think you couldn't do it in a film's running time (20*4 = 80 minutes! if we add intro and outro you'd up it to nearer 85. That's a feature length film we're talking about), then that's a bit strange, since many other stories have had crazy woman (sometimes a man) obsess over love; the classic example being Fatal Attraction. Having such a large build up adds something; that something to me is both a bit boring and pantyshots, heh. End of this discussion though I guess

I'll post some more on things I've actually watched recently and would recommend, or not, but not much point lumping it in here.

OK Fullmetal Alchemist. It's great, really! Kinda messy story (seems to be a theme with the little Anime I have seen (intentional rhyme)) but overall nicely done and man the world that is created is so awesome. 200% Recommended.

One gripe I do have is that

the end seems kinda... inconclusive. I sorta felt like Ed and Al did all that shit but now are worse off. Seems odd. Also it feels like they didn't have time to properly fill out Mustang's storyline, which is a shame as he is sexy. That being said I still love it.

Yea, the film is actually the epilogue (as in it continues on from the end of the series, it's not just a random LOL FILLER thing). Watch Brotherhood as well, both really good. btw, did you watch it with subs or dub? the dubbing for FMA isn't too bad, plus you get such amazing scenes as these:
