Funny enough, I was going to post that I have my ATI 4890 1GB for sale.

I wanted to get a new NVidia 460 but needed to know if anyone would be interested in my 4890 first? Rippy was sort of interested, dunno if he still is.

Antway, it's a DirectX 10.1 card, PCI Express. Needs 2x 6pin power cables and a 500w PSU at the minimum.

Manufacturer: Saphire
Cooling: Air cooling (Vapor-x though, which averages 60-65 degrees under heavy load for me)
Memory: 1GB GDR5
Runs as stock speed and has never been overclocked (don't think it would overclock if you're into that kind of thing)
It is not a DX11 card, and I fancy it to be quicker than an ATI 5770 which is around £120 these days.


I paid £160 for it in Jan of this year. Would listen to any reasonable offer you might like to make - obviously within your budget of course.

So far my card appears to have stabalised now that the colloing fan is actually turning at 100% rather than 33%.

So with luck It should hold out [touch of death right there ]

Junta's card would be an improovment for Dodgy. And you can also have that happy feeling inside of helping the planet by recyling

This might help you choose a card, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/GPU. It doesn't have the 8800GTS but you can compare current and previous generation cards on it.

AMD's 6000 series cards are being launched next week, probably shipping within a month . If you can wait the prices of current cards might go down a bit.

True, the 6850 and 6970 introduced at 22.10. are expected to be sliiiiiiiiightly faster than the GTX 460, so the prices in that sector should go down a bit, which would affect the 460 and 5770. If 460 goes down any more, I'd say go for that one it's about 25-30% faster than the 5770 (make sure you get the 1024MB version, not the 768 version or whatever).

The 5770 manages TF2 fine with everything turned on with 1920x1200 for me, though. If it's all that you play, it should be enough. Still, wait until 22.10. at least. Something's bound to happen.

Is AMD releasing new EXTREME PERFOMANCE cards or cards that humans can acually afford?

Because I've always felt that new EXTREME PERFORMANCE  cards don't do a whole lot to the prices of reasonably priced cards (I consider 130 to be the max i'd pay for a graphics card)

It's a whole range of cards. The 6000 series is pretty much replacing the 5000 series, with each model costing the same as it's equivalent but being around 30% faster.

From the looks of it, the 57xx series is becoming the new "low range" gaming cards, being available at least until the end of 2010 (there are some slower and cheaper cards, but I don't know if you can play much with them), while the new 68xx is positioning themselves between the 57xx and the 58xx. Then next month there will be 69xx (presumably), which are faster than the current 58xx series and then the month after that we're getting some ridiculous x2 card (probably called 6990 or something), which is supposed to be faster than the 5970 (anyone bought this?).

The 5770 is already a good value for little money and should become a little bit cheaper as soo as 68xx is introduced. Might even do something to the 460 series by nvidia as the 68xx will be around the same speed (a tad faster maybe). 69xx is supposed to be fighting the 470/480 series, so they may get cheaper as well (i would go with the 69xx regardless, when comparing those two).

And I should shut up, because I sound like a geek.
