So after months of TV adds and not much more that a "Thanks for regestering an interest" message on the BT WEB site, it's nice to see the front page of the Gloucester local paper declaring...

"Super broadband will speed to town"

Although it's slightly dissapointing to find that this means Cheltenham. And that it won't come in to effect untill Autum next year.

So apparently it means 40mb down and 10mb up (up to), and all starting for around £19.99 pcm on a 18 month contract.

Looking aound the bt web site http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=29017&s_cid=con_FURL_infinity it looks like parts of Bristol are already on it. So it would appear that may be in the next couple of years there may be finaly some competiton to Virgin's service.

I'm curious, is anyone planning on getting this upgread as when it's availble to them? Are you already on infinity?

The sad part of this is that BT approached Maggie Thatcher (yes that long ago) and asked for a few million to upgrade the whole of the UK to fibre optics . Had this gone ahead the UK would of been the premier location in the world for internet companies unfortunately for all of us she said no as she could not see the point.

It's coming to my area at the end of December, doubt I'll be bothering, as that'll mean ANOTHER 18 month contract.  By that time I'll have 6 months left on my current contract, and will be able to see the light at the end of the (slow, annoying) tunnel that is my BT contract.

I hate BT in general so would take them guarentee-ing me all that i.e. at least 30Mb d/l and 7Mb u/l for example, an letter telling me how wonderful I am and how much they need me, and get me like 30 minutes alone with a very sexy brunette or something (ah who am I kidding, I'd only take 2 minutes, and that's on a good day )

You can go via AAISP or Zen (and probably loads of others) instead of using BT if you want. If you're at work during the weekdays and thus don't need much peak-time allowance, AAISP isn't too expensive - and they have top notch customer support.

BT have recently upped their limits to 300GB/month, but they are still a terrible company. If you do sign with BT make sure you choose the Option 3 or whatever that gives you a decent allowance.

I've heard good things about connection speeds, most people are getting close to the max of 40Mb down, 10Mb up .... However I've also read posts from a technical guy working in one of the big ISP's that your Sync speeds are dependant on how many people are signed up on your street cab, once take up reaches just 20-30% of the lines sync speeds are closer to 20Mb than 40.

Has anyone got/tried this? Just moved into my new place and all the ADSL speed tests look abominable (speed checkers show <1mbps or 2-6mbps), there's no Virgin Media coverage - but we can get BT Infinity - it looks like our only option at the moment?

Was looking at the BT Infinity Option 2 which reckons we'll get 68mbps down and 20mbps for £26 pm + line rental with unlimited downloads.

Claims to have come to my town but then claims we can't get it on a line check. I've heard good things about it from friends who've got it though (or no problems with it, anyway).

you can go "fiber" with Sky now, which would be my choice.Pricing is similar to BT but without the peak time throttling

I've never personally had the BT fiber package, but I have had the Virgin one for a few years and love it. I know people who use the BT one and don't complain about it.

Am also on virgin and heard nothing but good things about BTs offering. Compared to ADSL, fiber wins hands down!

I would recommend sky over BT though. Had much better service history with sky having been with them for several decades with my family.
