A lot of you will remember the 6v6 pickups run by multiplay on IRC. They're dead now to the extent that the bots that run them, aren't running now..

So Pixel gaming (A game host run by Skyride, a well known bloke in tf2) has created 2 channels to replace the only multiplay one.

#Pixeltf2.open is what I now run
It's a place for new people in 6v6 to learn the actual 6v6 game mode. NOT like lobbies where there's no communication between team mates and there's strict rules to stop people from being dicks. Admins will actively help you improve and learn the game, which all other pickup services lack

the most notable rule for newbies is the fact that more experienced players (div5 and up) have to play off class as to stop rolling but help others improve.

Sounds good - I do have one question though:

The only reason lobbies don't have communication is people the people in them don't communicate - what makes this different? Sure - they have to be in mumble - but on lobby games you always get deadtalk so I don't see how you're going to encourage people to communicate?

But yeah - sounds like a good idea in theory. Will definitely check it out at some point.

Because you can tell the admins if someone isnt talking at all. Comms are a requirement in the pixel pickups as far as I remember (atleast in the div4 and higher-channel )

well the more experienced players who play (and so far, in every game there's been an off class div5+ guy) will still communicate through mumble, even if others aren't. People are more likely to want to learn when they play here and learning comms is an integral part of the learning process

Of course, not every game will have good comms and good players, but everyone is learning together.

Finally, most people in mumble respond to a bit of encouragement

Comms aren't mandatory in .open as a lot of newer players can feel intimidated by it, but it's always welcomed and nearly everyone there realises that it's important to their personal skill development.

It means you are playing a class that you usually don't play. Like if I would play spy or something.

EDIT: Also, the only reason I stopped playing multiplay pickups was the horrible ventrilo software (or was it TS2?)

It means they can't play their "primary class" in 6v6s.

For example, in a previous pug I did we had byte (div 1 Medic/Demoman) on our team and to stop it from being a complete roll he had to go Soldier or Scout because those were his weaker classes.

Actully, the communication is really good, for the games I played. The people are pretty friendly and it is a lot of fun. Sometimes it takes a while to find a game, but it is worth the wait if you have something to do in the meantime.
