My little Creative 2.1 system is begining to really piss me off now. The volume control is at that loverly stage again where there is no fine volume control. I can eaither have it too quiet to hear clearly. Or so loud it shakes the house. Or there is my personal favorite, randomly fluctuating both volume level and selective frequencies. So the sound goes from full and imersive to washed out and tinny.
Now the problem is with the potentiomiter in the volume controler that sits on the desk. Every so often I need to take the thing to pieces and drown it in electrical contact cleaner. Now this does work for a while. But in a couple of months it will be back to sh*tty sound again.
I've tried contacting Creative. You know they actually replied. They were sorry to hear that thier product had gone wrong, but it was long out side it's 12 months warenty. Why don't I consider buying something else exciting from their fine range of speakers?
So sympathy, sod all actual help. Like you can purchase just the volume controler cable "here" kind of thing. No, spend out on a whole new system.
So with that in mind I don't intend to buy Creative ever again. Which is a shame, because when the speakers are working properly they are great.
But as they stand at the moment, they're becoming un-useable.
So here's the dilema. I'm looking to buy a 2.1 speaker system that isn't a Creative. So far I've got two in mind.
There's a Sony set for £51.18
http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=12468&category_id=292&manufacturer_id=0&tid=srsd211.cek#And obserdly there is a an AmBX system that has come down in price alot to just £69.31
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Speakers+%26amp%3B+Headsets/Speakers+-+2.1/Ambx+PC+Premium+Kit+with+4+free+games+?productId=40106It's on pre-order only, so no garantee that they will ever get it in stock. But lights that change colour to mimic the gaming enviroment, a wrist rumbler and fans that mimic travel. OH sweet Betsy!
So I'm a little confilcted. I really don't want to spend the money. I've even considered trying to find a replacment potentiomiter. A bit of a finiky repair. De-solder the old part. Solder in the new bit. Hope it all works. Vs buying a new speaker system and then throwing away perficatly good speakers that just happen to have a dodgy volume controler.
I like the remote controler idear. A small little wired gadget that sits on the desk and it has the headphone jack in it as well. So with that thought the Sony is looking quite promising, and it's the cheaper purchase.
However may be I've overlooked something. Is there a 2.1 speaker system anyong can recomend? Does anyong have a spare remote controler for a Creative I-tring 3300 speaker system?

Unlikly. After a quick read of Creatives Support page it would apear that the best bet is to start looking at getting a different set of speakers.
