http://store.steampowered.com/steamaccount/addfunds/I personally fail to see the point.... ... but I smell mini-transactions coming up.

Was talking to disco about this. It basically just seems like it's paypal, except you can only add set amounts of cash, and you can't remove money from the account, only add.
Basically, paypal > steam wallet

Now I've the awesome picture of a giggling Gabe Newell running away from disco, who is shouting "give me back mah pennies!" @lt: Yeah, but the reason I use paypal is that paypal accepts other ways of payment (e.g. I can't donate to wdg via bank transfer), steam funds probably won't accept payment methods steam doesn't accept. (Though they could expend it later on...)

Lets not forget that Paypal are a bunch of sinister motherfuckers.
Granted, Valve are going the same way. But Paypal already, definitely are.

Maybe Steam are setting themselves up as an alternative to Paypal, GFWL etc

Screw mini transactions. Greedy bastards charging for stuff that would usually be done for free. To make it even worse they tend to lock down their new models by denying community tools.

I would be ok with steam wallet, if you could put in any amount. You don't really need a withdrawal feature as long as you can clear your account if needed. Asking you to put in prepaid amounts with no relation to actual prices is just a way to hold onto your change.

Just a way for Valve to collect money from people who then forget to spend it. The only use I see is to allow gift cards etc for Steam, but tbh gifting games to people works well enough already.

I doubt that since it asks me if I want to buy as gift each time I buy myself a game.
