if you see a problem and make it public enough then someone will fix it, happens all the time with hackers. some get paid to just look for security faults.

its more like seeing a pothole in the road but no-one comes to fix it even after you report it. they'll only fix it after someone has an accident through it.

Sadly I disagree - there are better ways to solve a problem than to give a tool to people where malicious use is possible!

Expose the problem = YES... give idiots a "hacking" tool = NO.

I agree that big websites are dicks by not addressing this ... so the answer is to inconvenience the users more? Making it *really* easy with a nice time saving tool for hacks?

This wont change anything except getting even more people's accounts compromised!

It's a mixed bag really, I get they want to make how clear it is to do this stuff (and tbh it was eye-opening to me, I had no idea you could do that shit), but to give any old person, with little to no idea about "hacking" a tool to do it easily is perhaps a bit silly.

Basically, I get what they're trying to say, but not sure they need to give everyone a tool to be able to do it =/

if i had more time on my hands and was less lazy, i'd love to make a debate bot to counter that bot. Theres no point debating about past human effect on climate I mean the current actual debate on what we can do to have a positive future effect on climate change and coping policies (because no way in hell can we fix things in the short term).

I watched that environmental program on Channel 4 last night about a how bunch of veteran environmentalists were saying much of the stuff they had protested against in the last 50 odd years (nuclear power and GM foods spring to mind) had actually managed to make the environmental and human situation worse through their successes.

A lesson for us all, listen to the scientists (as long as they are right), not the hysterical protesters.

Nah, I think it's right to do it like this, It's the only way that it'll get sufficient media attention so people will learn about the seriousness of it and how to protect themselves. Better they learn now so they are protected for when a really malicious tool comes out using the same techniques.

You would feel the same way if someone compromised your own account, posting shit online as you, leaving you to argue with a support team that would just say it looked like you had done it?
Im stunned that people think it ok for innocent users to bear the brunt of a hack just for publicity to shame a website. Its ok to harm innocent 3rd parties just because big business wont listen...
Also, the user has no say on how authentication works on some sites, so how do they avoid it? You disable cookies on some sites and see how far you get!

im really not sure this is going to compromise enough accounts to force a change, if it doesn't achieve that its just pissing people off for nothing. Given that for the average user it only works on unsecure wireless its not going to see wide usage. From the snippets I read it sounds like you can get it working on more networks, if, you know what you are doing which defeats the point of it
